same reason we needed Tippett to work out and he did for a bit even though he was not great this past year.. we really should want a kid to play top 6...just means we're getting production cheap. and that opens up cap and flex..

I really want deni to make it. all I know is in 2020 at the end of the year he looked solid with barky. kid can cycle. hope with age he keeps developing and pushes onto roster this year

Ya Barky can play w just about anybody. Throw the kids with Barkov, give them 30 games. If there’s nothing happening there, trade him like Tippet but for the love of Sasha, please replace that kid with a star for once. Feel bad that the guy is getting fading stars, castaways, and rookies on his lines for his whole career. He makes them good. But I want to see the man flourish with two stars on his wings to kick off that ten year contract.

When was the last time we had a true 1C, 1LW and 1RW all on the same line? Maybe Fleischmann, Versteeg, Weiss, and nobody was expecting that and it lasted for 1 season. Not many teams ever have that.
Look at Pittsburgh. They basically had 2x 1C over almost 2 decades, and never had great wings on both of their sides at the same time...

I prefer the depth but I agree with you, it would be cool to see a true AAA-first line (Verhaege-Barky-Tkachuk really has that potential, Verhaege-Barky-Duclair probably the best Barky got so far, with Huby-Barky-Jags close behind since Jags was great but too old and Huby not as good then as he is now)

I would have liked to see Denisenko up but there's no spot for him ATM. Heponiemi I'm expecting a trade, he's waiver eligible and since he's not making the team, Zito might as well recoup a mid-round pick, I can't see him clearing.

I'd love to see one of them put it together and make the jump to the big club. I have more faith in Denisenko, but not much. The big reason is his size. Heponiemi seems to be a much smarter player, but his lack of size is still alarming.

We can sign Pastrnak or Patrick Kane next offseason :naughty:

That line had great chemistry for a while. It helped us make the playoffs too. But Weiss was a good 2C, who played 1C for us since we had no 1C.

Big loss in Huberdeau.
Big gain in Tkachuck.
However both disappeared in play offs last season.
So I wouldn't say either acquisition makes their team a series contender.

Fair points. I would say Tkachuk has more time to grow into a playoff stud than Huby does, and it was said that he broke his hand in one of the first games of the playoffs. Maybe someone can clarify that injury.

You don’t have to be close friends with the guys you win with. Sometimes it’s better not to be. It’s good to like everyone but beyond that closeness is not a necessary ingredient for winning. You’ll become close after you win. From that aspect, Ek has the right mindset…good to see that maturity and winning instinct.

Several decent sources confirmed it:
Hurting Tkachuk Open to Long-Term Return
Flames' Matthew Tkachuk: Battled bruised hand
The Flames were a little banged up by the end of the playoffs

PO injuries are always kept under the radar, even the big ones. Treleving confirmed it though himself. Playing with an injured or broken hand is no fun at all - speaking from experience when I broke my scaphoid bone or had to deal with severe inflamations of my wrists. You just can't execute at all what you usually do with the stick

To me, this is one of the main reasons why I liked the Huby-MT trade: even if he can't use his playmaking skills, MT is still a factor. Huby is not even close to that level, even though he was trying for example by playing PK.

OTOH I just found out that MT had a concussion in the POs of 2020...
Matthew Tkachuk injury update: Flames star diagnosed with concussion

His playing style does take a toll on him at some point

Ah, good thing they now have the defensive stalwart Jonathan Huberdeau to replace those losers for 8 years at 10.5M per.

Was thinking the same. Flames fans are so bitter about losing the two. They just have to keep talking about the moves and how there suppposible better off now and how horrible Gaudreau and Thachuk actuallly are

A few on here come across defensive of any criticism thrown at Tkachuk. Whether it's from flames fans or Calgary players

I dont know how you read all the quotes from flames players regarding Tkachuk and only come out with the flames players being the toxic ones.

Insisting on becoming Captain makes Tkachuk look pretty arrogant, especially when if were being honest, the C is usually given to the best player on the team.

and it's unusual for teammates to be so candid about a former player when its usually your typical praise followed up with "it's a business" or praise of the player that was acquired as replacement.

Of course. The flames players don't look too good airing all this out either. But both can be true.

Ultimately though as long as Tkachuk performs, his supposed attitude issues unless significant, shouldn't be an issue.
