Alright, I'll admit it. I teared up.
What a rollercoaster of emotions. I was really upset when the Canes tied it up late, felt like we weren't placing our foot on the gas. Felt like we were sitting back too much and letting them dictate play.
Then we got a power play. And who else? Matthew f***ing Tkachuk ends it.
I fell in love with this franchise during a time when it was arguably the laughing stock of the sports world. There was no success to speak of. The team couldn't even make the playoffs. The fan support wasn't great and at times the team really struggled to fill our own building - there wasn't anything to cheer for.
But I just felt like hockey really could work in this market and would come alive if a winner was ever assembled by a competent management team. I have to admit, though, that it felt like we'd never get a winner here.
Boy was I wrong.
All I can say at this point is I love the Florida Panthers - and I'm so glad I stuck it out through the dark times to see this come to fruition.
