Liljegren's shot impresses me too. Not sure about the slapper but the wrister definitely has some zest on it.

The slapper is good and seeing him on pp2 was eye opening until I saw his one timer from the dots a few times. He has fired off a few one timers and timed it perfectly, it surprised me. Also, he does not hesitate to fire the puck with a quick release snap shot that has some weight on it for a deflection.

Have a feeling that Liljegren will be the odd man out for game 1.

I'd hate if that were the case, but I just don't see any scenario where Holl sits - he gets consistent top 4 minutes and is a big part of the team's PK.

Whatever happens, it's important to note that game 1 doesn't mean the entire playoffs - there's no scenario where Liljegren (or even Holl) is sitting in the press box for an entire round.

His biggest asset is his IQ. He needs to get a bit stronger and faster. But he should finish the year as our top 4 dman. Love the potential and what he's shown thus far. His ability to read the play and when to jump in or not is amazing.

I hope not, it would be a disaster of a choice

We have a top 4 rhd right here, the only reason we won't play him is he's really good at a young age. How dumb is that? Lilly should never leave this lineup again

I think Lily has earned his right to play in Game 1. Now, if the moment is too big for him, take him out for the next one, but I'm betting he takes the baton and Usain Bolt's with it.

Don't think this is true at all. Aside from last game where Holl averaged maybe 30 secs more, Liljegren has had more ice time in the past 3-5 games I believe. The one with limited ice time has been Lybushkin.

I've quite certain Boosh will sit and Keefe will go with:

Rielly - Brodie
Gio - Liljegren
Muzzin - Holl

He might alternate out Holl/Liljegren a game if things get too physical and we need Boosh (especially if we're vs Boston)

Knew I was right - thanks for the backup

I generally don't mind Kyper on his Kyper and Bourne show...but today he said he wouldn't have Liljegren in our starting 6 lol. Bourne was even worst.

Bourne's takes on players are just awful. He's been down on Liljegren, Bunting and Kerfoot. Talk about missing.

Absolutely absurd. I have Liljegren as our 3rd best overall D.

Rielly
Brodie
Liljegren
Sandin
Giordano
Lybushkin
Holl
Muzzin

That's my POV on our defensive depth.
Agree with your whole post except Sandin over Giordano? There's a lot more to defense than running a power play. Sandin has a lot of potential but for me personally, as of today, I'd probably have him last on that list.

I love Lilly. People can look through posts. I have been following him since he was a top pair d in the a and predcited this success for years.

That being said. I really don’t mind if they end up going

Rielly. Lub
Gio. Brodie
Muzz holl

If playing a heavy team. I really think Lilly struggles in front of his net.

He will be a top 4 mainstay for years. But I can see how he has an issue with the net front. Lub clears bodies.

I like Keefe but I didn't understand why he split up Gio and Timoth about a week or so ago. Such great chemistry. There's a good 15 years difference between the two but Timoth is so grizzled they could pass for the same age.
To make sure there's other pairs that work pre-playoffs, I'm pretty sure

Love this kid. Blossoming into a solid top 4 Dman before our very eyes. Remember, he was being talked about as a top 3 pick in his draft class before he got mono and thankfully fell to us at 17.
Right! Thanks for jogging the memory.:thumbu:

I agree with you.

But if you look at Holl's usage, he's a guy that Keefe leans on heavily in those scenarios which is why I'm expecting it'll be Holl & not Liljegren that draws in for game 1.

I think it’ll be both

His worst game in quite a long time. It shouldn't affect his chances of playing game one but if it does, we have issues. He's always responded after bad games so lets see if he can again.

Really solid first season for Lilly. Started out rough around the edges of course as he got a feel for the NHL game, then started to really show his capabilities as he got more experience and felt more comfortable. Giordano's arrival has really seen Liljegren take off as a defenseman and going forward this partnership will be huge for his development.

Stats wise, Liljegren finished the season with 5 goals and 18 assists. 23 points and good for 5th in rookie D-man scoring. Given Timmy played far fewer minutes (17:42 all season) on the PP than the likes of Seider (237:01), Drysdale (167:10), Durzi (158:22), and Carrier (76:49) it's damn impressive that he was within 10 points of finishing second on this list. Liljegren also played 20~ fewer games than Seider, Drysdale, and Carrier.

He has provided immense value this season as a rookie defenseman, and we should look forward to many more productive seasons from him.

Great first season and it might have went better than expected. Good first half with growing pains as expected, but his 2nd half was terrific after the arrival of Giordano. Relied on the PK on the 2nd unit and got PP time too in the final stretch. Some things to iron out for sure but real impressive. His confidence offensively is coming and I think there is still more there. Defensively he was very strong and got better and better. Net front was an issue in the first half but good improvement in the 2nd half. The big challange now comes in the playoffs. Kloke gave him a B+ in his report card and thats where I would have him.
