He’s obviously not as bad as he’s playing right now, but I found it hilarious whenever fans called him a top-5 talent in the NHL, or has potential to win an Art Ross.

He sucked to start last season too, only difference is he was picking up loads of points. Many insisted he was 'injured' then, despite never missing a game.
He was only good in January playing winger on Millers line. His production fell off, but he was mostly the same limp dink you see now the entire year.

Even in his 100p season, dude refused to shoot, and would just fall down in the corner on the PP. Only 6 pp goals that year despite having the main 1 timer position.

The 2 seasons before that, he couldn't even skate, was pushed down the lineup by both coaches.

His bubble playoffs make many forget that his 2nd season was rather mediocre as well, the line carried by JT.

Dude peaked as a rookie. That was the only time he looked like someone that could beat any goalie in the league, try creative passing plays, and could score in all situations. He's been a wet noodle the majority of the time since.
What’s your theory about what happened?

I just think it’s mental for him. I think he lets things get to him way too much. Doesn’t know how to handle all the bad media and constant talk about him and his struggles. Can’t handle being called out. That’s not his personality…he’s not gonna play better with people on him. I honestly think he needs a new team, new place to call home and kinda reset. The kid is Uber talented, there’s absolutely no question. He just has to figure out a way to block out the noise and keep his head on straight.

The plummet in skating speed and shot speed per edge stats is concerning. An injury for two years doesn't sound right to me now. Even if it's mental why would he skate so much slower and shoot softer. One of the most bizarre declines I've seen considering he's 25.

I never understood the hype.
The hype was warranted. But he's transformed into a different player

Last 3 regular seasons :

21-22 : 68 points
22-23 : 102 points
23-24 : 89 points

Playoffs :

19-20 : 18 points in 17 games
23-24 : 6 points in 13 games

Who is he really?

He got a smokeshow insta model gf about when the slump started. Dude doesn't strike me as a ladykiller, so he's probably been waiting a long time to get the lead out. Once the honeymoon period is over and the nagging starts, he'll all of a sudden focus on hockey with an intensity like we've never seen from him, and he'll get that Art Ross. Mark my words, fellas, the kid will be alright.

We all have been shitting on Mitch”in” Marner but we need to call a spade a spade and call out Elias Pettersson.

Elias Pettersson Has been garbage these playoffs. Is he injured? Are there any personal problems that Elias Pettersson has? What is up with Elias Pettersson?

He has been horrible, he needs to be better. What gives with Elias Pettersson?
You really thought more wood needed to be thrown on this fire ? Jesus

He was a super prospect in Sweden. Odds are he’s no stranger to the affection of beautiful women.

I think he’s hurt. Wrist injury. Explains the dead shot and lack of offensive output.

Or more simply, he is depressed. Can happen to anyone

I feel like he’s been pretty bad/overrated for a long time. He has shown flashes but never really lived up to the hype he created for himself with a great start to his career

I'm curious what you believe living up to the hype would be if a 102 point selke votes season is not good enough.

I mean he has been bad offensively for a while here, but I think he's shown enough to validate the hype and potential.
