One thing that might factor in the skewed attention towards Winnipeg vs other markets is maybe that for us not selling a couple thousand seats equates to 13,000 fans, whereas in Calgary (and many other places) it still amounts to ~16,000-or-so. Just playing devil’s advocate. I know that the economics behind attendances aren’t 1:1 ratio with crowd size (for instance, in Winnipeg this year it appears as though the bulk of the empty seats are mostly amongst the cheapest price categories, which means it has a lesser impact - and there are other factors as well, of course).

idk enough about the nhl team's economics however i'd also theorize the canadian nhl teams may be a bit more focused on revenue (ie: ticket revenue) given their salary expenditure can be 100M+ in CAD. The Jets are close to 120M CAD.

Based on this site and looking at capacity....

In a 32 team league only 9 teams have sold out all their home games so far.

Also, based on capacity %, there are 9 teams worse than the Jets.

Given that most of the teams in the NHL have multi-millions of people that could attend a game, and therefore most of the league should be selling out their games, but don't because not enough people want to go...is a bigger issue for the NHL than just thinking Winnipeg has a problem.

Given that most of the teams in the NHL have multi-millions of people that could attend a game, and therefore most of the league should be selling out their games, but don't because not enough people want to go...is a bigger issue for the NHL than just thinking Winnipeg has a problem.

Gate revenue is a more useful metric anyways. Would love to see that instead of attendance numbers.

Was thinking the same. Looks similar to the crowd vs. Wild on Thanksgiving Sunday. Lots of empty seats in the 300 level corners.

Yes, I too worry that TNSE will sell and move their primary tenant for their downtown arena, after they’ve invested so much in downtown real estate and development, and have even more development lined up for the future.

It was interesting to see yesterday, upper bowl ends were far more filled than the corners. I strongly suspect it was the ticket, hot dog & drink combo package that filled them up.

Lots of blue on ticket master in section 324/325 for tomorrow's game against Utah. Hopefully they're able to sell some of those for tomorrow!

It was interesting to see yesterday, upper bowl ends were far more filled than the corners. I strongly suspect it was the ticket, hot dog & drink combo package that filled them up.

The seats behind the nets in the 300s can be had for $40-$50 for most games. The corners have very few season ticket holders and the Jets are asking 80-100+ for them. It's just too much money for walkups.

Agreed. You would think maybe selling groups in those areas would be better for visuals.

Question: if you are brining your kid(s) to a 2pm hockey game - is there a significant advantage financially to choosing a moose game vs. paying $40 for upper bowl jets game? (Maybe I am missing something)

In any event, it’s a shame that there were so many empty seats at yesterday’s game. An amazing game and jets are now 11-1.

The investments they made downtown is a valid argument against selling/moving the team. However, the part about how the team rose in value from 170m to 1+ billion isn’t. If anything, it’s 800+ million in TNSE’s pockets as profit if they sell the team to a buyer that wants to move them based on the decision that Winnipeg can’t support an NHL team (frankly, based on last year and this year thus far, Winnipeg is giving plenty of reasons to the media to make this conclusion. Not saying it won’t turn around, but it’s not a good look.)

100% right.

There is some serious PTSD here from the 90s and it shows. This isn't the 90s... the issues that led to the demise of the Jets in the 90s are simply not an issue anymore.

As someone who attends both Moose games and Jets games, I will confidently say that the entertainment value of a Jets game is at least 10x that of a Moose game. In some respects it's kind of wild that a Jets upper bowl seat can be had for the same cost, or at least not much more than a Moose ticket. Moose games really aren't that cheap, at least at face value.

To me it's a no-brainer, take even the last row upper bowl Jets ticket over any Moose ticket. Personally I will only go to Moose games if the tickets are free or heavily discounted.
