I'll say it again, JB had men on 2nd and 3rd with 1 out and struck out. That turned out to be huge.
And I wonder if Barney/Goins track down those hits Travis missed......

I was going to mention the Travis thing too. It REALLY irked me he was out there. He is injured. He was injured. Sure, you want his bat, but let's be clear: Both GoGo and Barney are above average defenders who could take his place and there were two balls that were hit his way that were missed by him b/c of his injury. Him saying he was ready to go was a lie and it cost the Jays. Ultimately, it was the bats that let Estrada down, but Travis lying saying he's good to go is a selfish move, and as they say there is no "I" in Team.

Martin batting 5th has been driving me crazy. He should be no higher then 8th. Joey bats walks a lot and Martin is a rally killer over and over again. Has to be Tulo in the 5 hole.

That first inning set the tone. I was honestly shocked Donaldson didn't score from first on EE double. Especially when it died on the wall. No discount Joey bats has to at least put the ball in play to get him in. Let's see what tomorrow brings. A split coming back to TO would be awesome

X2 ID even go a step further and ask why he's starting. He's not going to hit anything, just look at his swings. He's either hurt.....or something

Outside of his hr against Texas, JB has been terrible. So glad the Jays have competent management in place and didn't throw money at the guy during his spring training show. He has 1 maybe 2 more seasons left in the MLB and some team is going to truly regret signing him this off season to a multi year deal. Martin batting 5th is also frustrating. He may be a great catcher, but he's a rally killing bum at the plate. If Tulo were there we score at least 2 runs in game 1.

Yeah there were a few times last night when my wife was like, "Tulo up next", and I said, "No, Martin" and there may have been a little sigh there.
And normally I wouldn't care, but against Kluber, and with Martin's post-season numbers.......

All the hot takes certainly give off that vibe.

Baseball is not for the faint of heart, or the weak of mind.

I do understand the newbs frustration slightly, though. I mean, who would have thought it would be hard to score runs off of Corey Kluber, Andrew Miller, and Cody Allen?

(The answer, for those curious, is a person who started watching baseball prior to August 1st 2015).

I was expecting a letdown last night after the time off. Hopefull the bats will rebound today and cash in baserunners. It's a shame Estrada was tagged with a loss after such a masterful performance.

The time off is not an excuse, in my opinion. Clevleand had one less day off. Maybe it affected both teams? Cleveland had exactly one more big hit than Toronto (1-0).

Or the fact that they were hitting over .400 with RISP against Texas. Can't expect that to continue forever, just like last night when they took an "ofer" with RISP. Both situations can occur, but both situations are not sustainable. Just like Texas did in the 2nd game against Happ. We let Cluber wiggle off the the hook during the first three innings, when we had the opportunity to knock him out of the game. Still think that Rivera is a weak link in the 3B coaches box.

Bautista needed to find a way to get the bat on the ball in the 1st.

Putting Tulo at 5 is a bit problematic because 6/7/8/9 would be brutal. My heart can only take so much. Ideally I'd want Carerra/JD/EE/Tulo/JB, because JB has been a huge strike out and double play guy lately but it would really water down the whole lineup.

They have to get something off Tomlin. If Jays can't beat Tomlin and Bauer then they were not good enough to begin with. What concerns me is that Boston couldn't beat those 2.

This. It's not hyperbole to expect -- EXPECT -- us to hit at least 2 runs off of Tomlin alone. If we're not leading by the 5th, it's been a failure of a day to that point.

The next 3 we have the advantage and 2 of them are at home. I'm guessing we lose 1 and it'll end up 2-2. This should be a great series.

finally martin moved, jesus that pissed me off. Hopefully happ has a slightly better outing than he did vs rangers. As for the game last night I knew we'd lose it for some reason, I'm hoping today we get our offense back. What's pissing me off the most is the umpire with weird strike zones the last 2 games. Game 3 vs rangers had an insanely inconsistent strike zone. Also I hate TBS.

I think you would have been kidding yourself if you though this would be a cake-walk for the Jays.
I still think they take it in 6, but maybe even go 7

This. Some people are massively underrating Cleveland, considering that they did take out Boston and its hot fire offense.
