The d-corps will be just as crowded. Scheuneman, Harrington, and Johanneson are all locks to play regularly. You can probably pencil Loof in there too, and Skinner as well. So that leaves two spots for Gaudet, Buchinger, Biakabutuka, and Malmstrom. Then you’ve gotta factor in whoever gets sent down from pros, be it Perunovich, Tucker, or someone else, so then really it’s one spot for one of the young guys. It’ll be a tight squeeze

With the assumption of injuries at both the NHL/AHL level, it’ll be nice to see that Springfield will have enough depth to ice a solid team with vets and a whole lot of prospects for the entire year.

Florida should have a pretty damn good team again to start the season as well, but the prospects who get sent there to start the year will definitely get time in the A.

Gaudet, Buchinger, Biakabutuka, and Malmstrom.

One stays, the rest go down, leaving eight D-men. Probably one too many.

Unless they can find a roster spot to loan to another AHL team.

Not ideal.

That’s awesome news, lowkey very important move. Don’t want to get stuck without a good AHL affiliate when the music stops again. Love to see long term stability for the org and prospect development pipeline.

As long as it's not the Chicago Wolves, I'm happy.

I do wish we had an affiliate closer to St. Louis. Bring back the Peoria Rivermen as our AHL affiliate.
I used to agree but just don’t think a place like Peoria can sustain a successful AHL franchise.

Springfield isn’t super close but for a league that mostly does bus rides and not flights, Springfield is really close to a lot of other AHL franchises so that helps. They also have a nice building and from what I can tell, are run well and have a dedicated fanbase.

Only ask I have is that they go full Simpsons and stick with the Ice-O-Topes full time and not just once a season.

Opening night in Springfield.

Here's the roster - 15 forwards, 9 d-men, 2 goalies. Lots of guys fighting for precious ice time.

SRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds announced today that Opening Night, presented by MGM Springfield, has officially sold out. This marks the 15th consecutive sellout game at the MassMutual Center dating back to last season.

So basically everyone except Cranley and Baikabutuka made the team?

And Robertsson will obviously be added once he can play. Anyone know what his injury is or the severity?

Opening night lines tonight for the T-Birds. Good to see Dali on the first line, but bummed Loof is out of the lineup. Would rather him play over Scheuneman.

T-Birds (1-0-0) win 3-1. Goals by Dvorsky, McGing, Alexandrov (EN)

Highlights here.

Three Stars - McGing, Dvorsky, Zherenko

Just under 10 minutes after the Davidson goal, the T-Birds' highly-touted rookie made his presence known as Dalibor Dvorsky parked near the crease and scooped a backhand rebound under Laval goaltender Connor Hughes to even the slate, 1-1, at 11:23 of the period.

Hugh McGing chipped a puck into the offensive zone on the right wing. Marcus Sylvegard retrieved it and quickly set up Zach Dean with a cross-ice pass. While Hughes made the first save, Dean stayed after the loose rebound and slid it back into the slot, where McGing rifled it into a mostly vacant net to make it a 2-1 game at 1:25.

Should’ve used some subs today. Can’t say they look as well today. Turn the puck over a lot. Skinner and Johannesson have looked good on D. Can’t say any of the kids are a bright spot.

Just looking at the scoresheet, it was a rough game for the entire team. Fifteen different Thunderbirds received a -1 on the first three goals. Yowza!

They need more fire power. Robertsson and Bolduc would sure help. If the Blues coach keeps obsessing over Kapanen, then it may be the best thing for Bolduc. Dvorsky and Peca could get him the puck.

Having guys like Peca on the T-Birds, after having been in the Blues system, is beneficial to overall system success. Peca is a good player and think he'd make a fine partner for Bolduc. Banny is over-compensating for Saad's absence by playing Kapanen, imo. DA sent Hayes on his merry way. Now it's time to take a Krapenen.

I really like this forward group once Bolduc and Robertsson join the lineup. It’s nice being able to load their roster with talented prospects for once.

They have MacEachern on the first line and several of the guys may as well play without their stick. At least they would stay out of the box. They just lack skill. Why would it hurt to let Bolduc be THE guy and put up some points in the AHL? He didn’t set the world on fire last year. Let him get some confidence at the next level. Gets off to a dynamite start, then let him rid the shuttle til he takes the job.
