hello friends.

I have three questions.

1.) what would you grade dean’s coaching so far this season?

2.) if you could describe his coaching style; how would you describe it?

3.) what’s your favorite thing about dean evason as a coach? (his persona/coaching style.. etc)

Evason is the alpha and omega of our improvement. He has created a system, he knows how to use players properly, motivate them.

EDIT: Let me put it this way. If we advance to the PO, he should get the Jack Adams Trophy. If not, let them shove that award somewhere. The exception would be Martin St. Louis, if MTL plays in PO. In that case, I could understand the award going to a hockey legend sooner.

There's other coaches too, like Carbery, who have gotten a lot out of their teams, with even better records. We'll see how we finish the season before talking about the Jack Adams trophy.

I give him an A.

He put in place a high pressure system which suits our talent really well. It's a man on man defense and a 2 man forecheck. It gives us the puck a lot, at the expense of a lot of mistakes. So of course we give up a lot of goals, but also score a lot. We're not built to play possum. We're built to skate and pressure.

He gives a lot of leash to the players to try things and have occasional bad games, so far he's only really stepped in with Severson when he really had a bad couple weeks, and the intervention so far has worked well. We lost Gaudreau and Laine and now have the ice time to really lavish the kids with, so I'm hesitant to say this is a general philosophy of Evason's, to play the kids. These are the only horses he has.

I personally like his intensity and passion, yet he's not the type to scare his players. There's a lot of respect. That's a good balance to strike.

I think this is a pretty good description of why he is doing well with a young team. We have had one of the youngest rosters in hockey for years, but nobody seemed to be able to deal with that situation. Evason seems to know how to work with kids.

I like that he gave everyone a blank slate and actually meant it.

I like that he is mostly moving slowly and using this year to evaluate people. The moves (Tex, Boqvist, etc.) he did make to clear a path for younger guys made sense.

I don’t know if it is coach or GM or both, but letting LDBB and Mateychuk have success in the AHL and not bringing them up earlier in the year is a move I really like. “Let people develop in the AHL” should be tattooed on everyone in the organization.

I fully expect the next part of the season to be rough. We have lots of road games coming up. That is part of the learning process. We have learned how to play at home where we control the matchups. Now we need to learn to play when the other team does.

Reminds of the late Herb Brooks in a way. Earn your spot, earn your ice time, buy into the system and team first. He doesn't appear to worry about hurting feelings for the gods of the team and keeps a pulsar on the mistakes but still allows creativity. I like his aggressive system and the fact he's put the right groups together for success. The young players are thriving and the old players are leading. He's managed the roster well and knows there is more to do but preaches his system.

Great fit. I have him as an A

The question for me is how much of the offensive game success can be attributed to him and how much of it is just our prospects on their normal growth path.

With the defense, while goaltending is still a bit leaky, it does seem like we give up less shots this season for the most part. Disclaimer: I did not go digging for these stats to confirm my suspicions.

I think his coaching/systems is responsible for the improvement with both groups, so I voted A.

Carbery has better team. Also look how he has improved our players. Plus there is big competition in the East conference. So if PO I think he would deserve Jack Adams awards. Especially if our goalies are average.
