hello friends.

I have three questions.

1.) what would you grade dean’s coaching so far this season?

2.) if you could describe his coaching style; how would you describe it?

3.) what’s your favorite thing about dean evason as a coach? (his persona/coaching style.. etc)

Evason is the alpha and omega of our improvement. He has created a system, he knows how to use players properly, motivate them.

EDIT: Let me put it this way. If we advance to the PO, he should get the Jack Adams Trophy. If not, let them shove that award somewhere. The exception would be Martin St. Louis, if MTL plays in PO. In that case, I could understand the award going to a hockey legend sooner.

There's other coaches too, like Carbery, who have gotten a lot of their teams, with even better records. We'll see how we finish the season before talking about the Jack Adams trophy.

I give him an A.

He put in place a high pressure system which suits our talent really well. It's a man on man defense and a 2 man forecheck. It gives us the puck a lot, at the expense of a lot of mistakes. So of course we give up a lot of goals, but also score a lot. We're not built to play possum. We're built to skate and pressure.

He gives a lot of leash to the players to try things and have occasional bad games, so far he's only really stepped in with Severson when he really had a bad couple weeks, and the intervention so far has worked well. We lost Gaudreau and Laine and now have the ice time to really lavish the kids with, so I'm hesitant to say this is a general philosophy of Evason's, to play the kids. These are the only horses he has.

I personally like his intensity and passion, yet he's not the type to scare his players. There's a lot of respect. That's a good balance to strike.
