OT: Thread About Nothing (part # who cares)

My youngest wants to learn to drive a manual transmission. So I'm going to get an extra old car for that purpose since you cannot rent them anymore near me. In looking, I'm running across plenty of people who have no idea what to ask for a car that has 233,000 miles on it that is hardly in mint condition. But I think the craziest are the guys who spend $10k to modify a $5k car and think they can get $15k back and of course the Jeep crowd who customize those and again expect people to pay a grossly inflated price. Does anyone really spend $10k on a 1999 Wrangler with 185k miles and numerous issues?

I learned how to ride a little dirt bike when I was like 10 and that burned in the throttle, clutch, gear shift timing without much that can go wrong. Transferring that from motorcycle to a manual car was super easy. Might be an alternative if you want to have a dual purpose bike around to play on.
I have always been a car guy. My wife knew that when she married me. I've had numerous impractical cars and she put up with it because it's me. But I've never been a motorcycle guy. I think she'd say no outright as a boyfriend of hers in high school had a motorcycle accident.

might wanna go on a nice 4 day fishing trip up North
A lot city people are already rushing to upstate. I have been checking hotel and Airbnb availability in NY, VT and NH...a lot is booked and I don't like crowds at all. Fishing might not even be an option if the waters are too warm. 70 degree water is super stressful for trout and catching them has a high likelihood of killing them....not interested in that.

I'm really not a fan of summer. From the end of the Stanley Cup finals to September is dreadful to me even though my birthday is right in the middle of that....

Unless it's summer in high altitude. I love summer in the Rockies about 6000 ft and higher. I love 90 degree days that can drop to 35/40 degree nights with almost no humidity. High altitude is the most wonderful climate in the world....and you need fewer drinks at high altitude. 2 8 or 9% abv beers can throw you for a loop at 10K elevation.

I think I need to go out west.

This is really the first heat wave in the Northeast, I'm sure the water way way upstate isn't too warm yet, since your situation is unexpected I'm sure you could hop in the car/truck and find something after a few hours drive?

Probably..The upper Delaware in Deposit NY has 50 degree water right now. Lodging is a bit difficult though.

And I'm kind of a princess when it comes to accomodations...at least that what's my wife says?

But I also can't get to far because once the HVAC gets the motor delivered, he's going to install it the next day...So 3 to 5 days... At least I need to be flexible enough to get back home in a day.... it's only a 3 hour drive to Deposit NY for me

My AC went out yesterday. Compressor motor ceased on the outside unit. Gonna take a week to get a new motor and installed. Of course it's suppose to be 100+ degrees before they can replace it.

Think I'm just going to get a hotel room for the week?

the furnace stopped working a few months ago. i remember it got as low as 56 one night. still havent gotten around to getting it fixed but i'll have to if i want the AC to go

one of these days i guess 😂

homemade dough and pesto with chicken, onions, green peppers and mushrooms. both soft and 'hard' mozzarella...8 minutes maxed out stove oven. 10/10

I’ve never liked summer but I don’t think I can remember one that hasn’t been one of the hottest on record.
Shit...this is nothing.

I remember 1997 I think it was, could've been 98 but I'm not sure, but I think it was 97. ...We had like 10+ straight days in the upper 90's and 100's. With brown outs and all. It was brutal.

I had just moved back from Boston to Paterson NJ and I had bowls of ice in front of a fan in my childhood bedroom that had no air conditioning. It was the most oppressive heat that I have ever been in and I have been in both Florida and Arizona in August.

I love summer.

I do not love whatever June-September is where I live. Probably even May-October.

f*** this shit.
I had a girlfriend in Coral Springs (right up the road from the Sunrise center, or whatever its called now) and landing in Ft Lauderdale at 9:00 at night and getting off the plane in Feb/March etc was awesome, 75 degrees and I wondered what an I doing in Jersey! Then I moved in with her and got a job as a mechanic, I moved there in May 2019, I could not believe how hot is was already in May during the day, you know what its like walking around a huge parking lot full of cars (all locked up windows closed) and getting in them to bring into the shop OMG a got dizzy from the heat, luckily my girlfriend was a nasty drunk and told me to pack my shit and get out one night!!!! I couldnt wait to get on the Auto-Train back up to my area lol. I don't know how people can work there in July and August etc???

I used to dislike summer, but did a complete 180 on it after moving out to the suburbs. It gets so green and nice out here. This summer has been pretty lousy though. Either rain or heat, no nice days.

Let me guess... not long ago, these tended to be fairly priced? The same thing happened with retro video games. Usually, you could find old stuff for a good price, with the exception of games where getting an original copy was the only (legal) way- so stuff like Earthbound was always priced ridiculously. But a few years ago, people (my suspicion is that they have industry ties) started inflating prices. Two people managed to get an original in-box Super Mario Bros. cartridge to high prices essentially by bouncing off of each other. Now, if you manage to find a used game store, the affordability is all gone. So many original DS games in boxes at one near my old office clear three digits easily.

Karl Jobst (think what you will about him) made a really good video about the retro game market:
