OT: Thread About Nothing (part # who cares)

Leaving for Paris in 3 days. Longterm stay booked, four year visa approved, US job is somehow letting me work there (with a US salary!!), need to meet with a tax lawyer but otherwise we are in business folks

When do you come to get me and what do I have to pack? Where are we staying in Paris? I prefer the 1st arrondissement but if you get a nice enough place I’ll make do near thr Montmarte. I’m excited for our trip!

This weather pattern absolutely sucks. I cleaned/powerwashed our year old deck last week in preparation for staining. I'm using an oil based stain and it's going take a couple days, so it would be nice to have a 4 or 5 day stretch without rain. Meanwhile, all of our deck furniture is under a tarp. :/ Happy summer!

Are you a soccer fan? Going to a PSG game should be on your things to do list since you're going to be living there anyway.

Do you do any cutting, planing inside (I see the miter saw there)? Once the deck is done, I'm going to make a couple rolling carts for my miter saw and planer. Too much dust and wood chips to deal with in the garage - I mean workshop. :D I'll do all my assembly and staining in there.

You telling me. This has been the craziest weather that I can remember. I haven't been fishing in New York on the upper Delaware once this year because the river is mostly unwadable due to high water.

I shouldn't complain because more water is better for the system but it's nearly the middle of June and I haven't been there once and usually by this time of year I've gone at least 3 or 4 times.

i try not to do major cutting indoors and i built these decks for that purpose

the left one faces north and is 5' x 19' while the right one is 6' wide x 5' and i just bought that saw stand it collapes and has wheels. best 100$ spent

I'm not a sweets person but I had the most unusual craving for cheesecake all day today. I have no idea where it came from but I want a good old fashioned diner cheesecake and a cup of coffee.

Oh man, my Mom made the best cheesecake (and crumcake) unfortunately she died on June 20 of '24, thats why I haven't been posting for a while, I watched her starve to death from stomach cancer for 10 months, I even left my job to take care of her, the last thing she said to me was "I want to watch that with you" as I flipped through the TV channels and stopped at game 4 of the finals last year, she saw the red uniforms of the Panthers and thought it was the Devils, it's the shitty part of life we all go through, RIP Mom

Wow. I am so sorry. I hope you are healing the best that you can.

I dealt with a very similar situation with my mom and I didn't deal with it well at all....

it is earily strange that you would post this today because today would've been my mom's 75th birthday and I've been struggling all day.

Wow dude, you brought up the cheesecake and it went right to me, my Mom (a German) was a great baker, she slept in a freight car on hay while Berlin was getting bombed in the 40's, came to America with my Dad (died in 83 from a heart attack) and had a family, never was sick a day in her life, mentally she was sharper than me, but out of nowhere she started getting heartburn at night and then started throwing up out of nowhere even though she didnt feel sick, but her stomach exit was closed from cancer and food wouldnt pass through, they put a 22mm stent in her stomach so she could at least eat soup and soft foods but it was just a matter of time. I did everything I could to keep her comfortable but in the end Cancer always wins out. June 13 is my birthday and she passed a week after that, yeah its been a rough year, makes me wonder about life and things, sorry to hear you went through something similar, but we MUST live on, give your wife and or kids a hung once in a while just to let them know, we're only here for a short time.

Ugh. I am so sorry. No matter how old our parents get or how much time we have with them or can see the end approaching it is never enough and never not gut wrenching. Hopefully you can grieve and take comfort in her memory.
