OT: Thread About Nothing (part # who cares)

Glad to have dark mode back and all, but why are user names appearing in dark pink? It's next to impossible to read on the dark background - is there anyway to fix this?

Needed to request a new birth certificate from New Jersey for our intl move. 12 weeks??

It’s one thing to be in NJ but I’m all the way in North Carolina and it’s maddening
It can't be done online and then notarized in NC?

I had to get my birth certificate a long time ago... sometime in the early 80's and I remember getting a simple print out from the town hall then having to go get it stamped by a notary public.

My 1 year old just started walking on his own today. Of course now that's all he wants to do as were boarding a flight to Switzerland.

Wish me, and everyone on the plane, luck!

Where in Switzerland? My oldest studied abroad there once. I have not visited hut the pictures he shared were beautiful.

This fly is so simple to tie it borders on ridiculous... nothing in nature really looks like it but for some strange reason trout seem to love it...not only dumb stocked trout but wild fish seems to go crazy for it too.

Looks like a small tennis ball on the end of that. Maybe the fish think they are playing fetch?

It's called a bead head. They are made out of brass usually but also tungsten for added weight. They get the fly down deeper quicker. Some people say it's the "bling" of the bead that attracts the fish not the fly at all.

Is it worth adding a scent element to these? Do fish pick that up? I’ve read the claim that sharks can smell blood in the water quite far away for example.

Adding scent works incredibly well. It's also illegal in many places that have specific fly fishing regulations.

In Alaska they catch big rainbow trout following salmon that eat their dead flesh and eggs. There's a fly called a "flesh fly". Usually just a strip of pink rabbit fur... people load them up with fish oils and I've heard that the catch rate is 2 to 1 oil vs none.

I'm considering buying a vice and getting back into tying. I used to do it years ago. Then I had all my fly fishing gear stolen. Lots of sentimental stuff. I packed away the vice and just stopped tying and fly fishing. I don't know what ever happened to my old vice, but I am getting the itch to tie again.

In other news, I saw my first blue tailed skink in the wild today. We hiked a bit over 10 miles at Norvin Green and saw this guy around mile 8, super high up.

Norvin Green . I haven't heard that name in long time... I used to go there and Wawayanda all the time when I was in highschool. I went to highschool in Wayne just off of RT 23 so they both were a straight shot up 23.

There was lake/pond in Wawayanda that was about 1.5 miles from the nearest parking area that was loaded with pickerel. I am not exaggerating when I say 50 fish wasn't a problem....they weren't very big...maybe 12/14 inches was the biggest I've seen with most about the size of your hand ..but they were ferocious.

That sucks that you lost your tying stuff. Cool on the skink though.
