And as a counter to the heavy philosophy above...
I'm in a semipro band playing bars and wedding circuit stuff and at years end we talk about picking a new batch of songs. So we have a list of 100 to talk about/ play this Sunday and I'm doing some advanced scouting scribbling down chords/riffs/bridges etc and I zipped through the first 39 of the party/Motown songs... Lots of I IV V or simple 4chorders and some PFunk where there's literally one chord and a bass riff and the rest is just fun... And for sure I had to refresh a Hendrix riff or look up what sus chord Stevie Wonder is using but it was clear sailing until I hit this bubblegum song and glorious bassline by Wilton Felder. And if playing this doesn't make you smile, you aren't human. And what's more, if you can get past the child exploitation and subsequent horror story for the protagonist, the wonderful Internet can tell me that it was played on a single coil fender bass without a pick. (Always with the fingers, said Wilton.)

My friend (the one who's a touring bass player) plays with no pick and never has.

Guy has some of the smoothest hands you can feel, but his fingertips are all calloused from decades of playing like that.

He can almost leave scratch marks running his fingertips across your hand, without his nails even coming anywhere near contact with your skin.

It's mostly on his playing hand (right), but the fingers on the left hand aren't exactly smooth.

That looks amazing. Is that all from you hunting?

none of it hunting

its pork and not all mine (i smoke for many others). they bring their own though. photo was taken before more was added later in the day.

i ended up with 70 lbs pre-dryed after processing two shoulders and two legs and two bacon slabs as seen

one smoke of apple and cherry done at 5pm. will do a second when i get back from work tomorrow.

then to cellar to dry 5 weeks roughly and vacuum pack

Looks like we're back to the old forums format, more or less. Avatars are too small and the profile info automatically closes when you click it open.

And to top it all off?

The Styles (Light/Dark theme) are no longer an option but the Font Size is.

Gee...thanks, HFBoard overlords. We REALLLY needed the Font Size adjustment over the Styles.

I'm still seeing the message at the top that they are still working on it so I expect this is just an interim look.

I completely forgot this song existed, and I was fortunate enough to hear it again this weekend. Not quite like hearing it for the first time, but I considered myself lucky to rediscover it. god damn is this a great song:

So in the wake of a possible ban of TikTok in the US (I still don't know how you can enforce such a thing, but that's another matter entirely), people have responded by finding Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book, or Red Note), a different app that not just has the same short-form video capabilities, but has more functions. And it also shows videos and content from inside the Chinese mainland. Both countries are finding out that it doesn't matter how you try to restrict the internet, there are always ways around.

In all likelihood, the novelty will likely die off for me in a week and I'll just use it so my wife shows me whatever weird crap she encounters while scrolling. But I'm gonna try and stake a claim on the hockey side.

My coworker is a white woman who was adopted by a Chinese-American family and has her feet in both cultural worlds, so she's been telling me she's been on the phone the past two days telling her baffled Chinese relatives why there's Americans on Xiaohongshu now.

For the record, they think it's hilarious.

if you set your panel display to warm night mode, you can get some sun therapy if you maximize the browser like those special bulbs they sell for winter depression
I'll keep that in mind as we're fully into the "living in perpetual darkness and cold" time of the year. It's currently a balmy -17° here. Although it's supposed to get up near 40° Wednesday and Thursday, then highs below 0° again for the weekend.
