I don't mind the doneness. I often order a pizza a little extra crispy...I didn't this time, this is how it came. But I heard so many good things about this place, I figured I should try it since I only live about 10 minutes away.

The building is super cool and they have awesome long bar that has a great old school vibes...the staff seems like they have all been there for 50 years and they were all incredibly nice. I got there around 3:30 and my wife and I were the only people there. Cool place, I would go to hang out and have a beer and pizza again...just the hype didn't match the product in my honest opinion... that's not to say it was bad...it was just run of mill in my opinion.
Head to most pizza places in the south and you’d be crying for NY/NJ run of the mill.

I've found over the years that it's not just pizza or Italian, bagels and bakeries that taste better up there than points south. The same thing goes for Chinese food. I don't know why.

Of course I'm sure BBQ tastes better down south than up north. And while I think there was great Mexican/Latin food up in Jersey, I've found that it's not at all bad where I live.

I don't notice much of a drop off in Mexican/Latin food here from up home, but it's very noticeable in pizza, Italian and Chinese.

Pizza and Italian isn't as bad in Florida as it probably is in Georgia, Alabama or the Carolinas, as there's a lot of transplants from up north that moved down here to open pizza places. And plenty of the transplants are satisfied with some of the pizza places here.

Speaking of pizza, my favorite place I've gone to for over 30 years recently sold their business. Tony D's in Westwood, I talked to the owner Mario over the summer about eventually selling but he wasn't sure if it would happen. It's going to remain a pizza place which was the one stipulation upon selling but I don't think he fully gave up his specific recipes for all their awesome food, I get it but it's unfortunate. I haven't checked it out yet with the new owners so we'll see.

By me there is not only a great food tradition but there is an Italian food tradition that is part of it but pizza didn’t get the memo. There is one decent place in my entire suburb. There is one excellent and one decent Chinese restaurant.

Just finished watching The Day of the Jackal on Peacock. I enjoyed it, especially that a few loose ends were wrapped up nicely. And they left themselves a good plot for the 2nd season which has been confirmed. There are tons of plot holes, but if you can overlook that, it's a fun watch.

Best pizza place I've ever had was in Montville. Columbia Inn. Absolutely incredible thin crust pie. Like, I love Star Tavern and 10 years ago I'd tell you that's the gold standard of pizza in NJ but Columbia Inn is probably a notch above that. They are at the very least neck and neck. However, Star Tavern has gone downhill recently.

That sucks to hear that Star Tavern has gone down hill cause they are on my try list.

I've heard they do a similar pizza style to Patsy's Tavern in Paterson.

Patsy's was my neighborhood pizza place growing up. Although I haven't been there in a very long time, Patsy's is still one of, if not the best pizza I've ever had in New Jersey.

Maybe some of it is nostalgia but that place was/is awesome.

I have a theory go to a place and get a side of meatballs...you can tell how good all their food is by a side of meatballs. If they don't do a side of meatballs, don't trust them

Watch the first two episodes. Not bad, intriguing. Will definitely watch more.

Not crazy about the Euro style production. That foreign film vibe always equates to boring in my ethnocentric mind :)

You know, the best meatballs you'll ever make are always gonna be your own. Ordering meatballs out is such a risky move because it's that thin line because 'hey this is pretty good' and 'hey this is f***ing alpo'

A lot of pizza places that I've been to lost me as a customer because they either buy their meatballs in or can't take the time and be bothered to make them right. Which is amazing because good meatballs aren't complicated.

But also, you could live anywhere in America and still make quality meatballs because when it comes to food we live in the best time in human history and all these ingredients are insanely accessible. I even saw Locatelli brand Pecorino when I visited my family in the Carolinas. That's worth it's weight in gold in any Italian American home in the northeast.

Dammit I want meatballs and rigatoni now. Maybe a dab of ricotta at the end to finish. *chefs kiss*

I took time off for the rest of the year, which means it’s time to experiment with some new recipes!

This coming week, I’m planning to make the following dishes: potato tahdig, fesenjan, tteokbokki, pupusas with curtido and salsa verde, and Jamaican jerk tofu.

Hoping they turn out well.

Not sure where to put this, but I subbed in a really good men's league that I retired from as a regular a couple years ago and John Moore was playing in the game after mine. Kinda funny to see him wearing Ducks gear given how his 4 day tenure in Anaheim played out.

I really can't believe how cold it is. I woke up this morning and my outside thermometer said 5° ... It's too early in the season for it to be this cold

I seriously don't remember it ever being this cold this early....I mean January and February sure. I can even remember some brutal New Years days...but before Christmas single digits? I think I need to go south.

Maybe those drones were testing their new climate technology to reduce global temperatures?
