another souper day was had this past saturday... the 4th year i've done this....perfect weather also.

the event was born after the local event at a park was cancelled during covid and never happened again as there weren't enough restaurants to make it happen and they wouldn't let people like me enter as i don't have an accredited kitchen

so f*** them with the lack of entrants...i made my own parties and have sent emails to the former event coordinator every year since the cancellation.

he has never replied to any of them (with reason....i mock the shit out of him)

so here they are...2024:

Nice looking soups. I’ve been on a soup/stew kick lately too.

In the last week I’ve made avgolemono and kimchi jjigae, and tonight I made an Ecuadorian potato soup. First time I made it, but it came out well.

thanks, but not all mine...

i'm already of thinking of next year....trying not to repeat yourself (or someone else is a challenge) ...so far in four years i've done clam chowder, roasted poblano and corn soup, chickpea/spinich/potato/arbol chile soup and a polish dill pickle soup.

...what to make next.....hmm...

Let's not...let's just not. There are other places to talk about the election, but we can't do it here. Even if it wasn't a HF rule we saw during COVID how divisive it gets here when we go down that rabbit hole. So just...celebrate or commiserate off board.

Rained out from hunting today. Thunderstorms, high winds, pouring
rain... Weather has been brutal the last week.

Did see two beautiful coyotes last night. They came less than 10 yards away and never knew I was there. Pretty cool

We could use the rain here, can't even remember the last time it rained at this point

So got recently engaged and in Finland the groom also gets a ring at engagement but since my fiancé is from the US we did it the US way and ill get mine at the wedding. She wanted to gift me with a nice watch to commemorate the engagement, so we went today to the Omega and Tag Heuer stores on 5th Avenue.

Crazy how big of a difference there was in the service and customer experience. Tag Heuer felt like a department store. So, i got an Omega now  never thought id have one, not a brand new one at least, with the salaries and taxation we got in Finland. But am here on US payroll and NYC comp, so a bit more financial flexibility.

Although we do get killed by the NYC rent....

There was a brief moment in time during COVID when rents dropped and my brilliant wife decided we should move, and I ended up with a sick apartment for much less than market rate.

Subtle brag that you can speak to your significant other without her threatening to smother you in your sleep and ruefully asking herself why she didn’t do it years ago.

Congrats on the engagement and the watch. Not necessarily in that order. Which Omega did you go with?

Cheers! I got the Seamaster Aqua Terra 41mm. The 38mm felt a tad too small

I'm a bit more partial to their dive watches but that is a very sharp watch that will last you a lifetime with service. I can't justify spending that much on a watch (well maybe I could but my wife has to say yes also you will learn about that soon) but maybe someday I'll suck it up and get a Seamaster 300 Heritage in the summer blue.

OK @njdevils1982 this was probably the most surprising and impressive moment of the show when Gimour ripped off about three straight minutes of shredding. On rewatch I think what strikes me is that it's the closest he gets to a blues structure where he can just let it rip. The song isn't so well known that he has to follow a preset path - unlike say Comfortably Numb. The recording doesn't really do it justice but maybe if you crank it up a good bit. I hope he plays some shows in the future. He still plays well and sounds like himself at 78.
