Thoughts on Alex Faust as a PBP Guy?

Doing a GREAT job with NBC, borderline mutable on the Kings broadcast. Partially because the on ice product is so horrible and mostly because Fox is way too overbearing. He runs the broadcast on NBC and is fantastic. Fox needs to cool off and let Faust run the show.

I just don't understand the appeal to announcers like Faust. Says nothing interesting, never makes you laugh, gives zero insight to the game.

Only way to like this guy is if you just want to listen to a "good announcer voice" and never want to hear anything that might offend anyone.

He is as bland and milquetoast as it gets.

Milquetoast is the least of the issues. He stops calling the game. Whether it is due to commentary doesn't matter. Just cal the freaking game and stop trying to being a espn head.

It'll never happen now, but I really think when Miller retired LA should have asked Fox to leave too. It's a really weird dynamic right now where Fox kind of leads the broadcast while Faust is the PBP.

From a pure PBP voice perspective, Faust does a fine job. We were spoiled to have such incredible announcers for so long, and now everything about the Kings just kind of sucks. But I think that's just kind of across the board... starting with the team, the jerseys, the in-arena experience, the television crew, and everything in between. I think it's because the team is bad, but I'm not sure how much the other stuff around the organization impacts that. I wish we could bottle some of that early Lombardi magic, it was almost a startup mentality. Come in, move fast, and break things.

It is a weird dynamic. A lot of the time I'm thinking it's an ad selling wine.

I like him. I realize I'm in the minority here. I think he's got sky high potential, but he's YOUNG. This was a 'futures' move by the org. And let's be real--NO ONE was filling Bob's shoes, most of the complaints here would be the same (and valid, really) no matter who the hire was, imo.

Really in the other thread we had complaints from "not homer enough" to "too homer" and it just shows what an impossible job Faust has ahead of him.

Do agree he's, thus far, missing a 'signature' so far. He's very factual and pretty bland, even if it's a good call. I LOVE his goal calls, though. It's forceful without being over the top.

There's an age gap, experience gap, generation gap, sport gap even. I don't think that'll EVER work.

The generational gap between Fox and Faust is enormous. The two of them are not bridging it. Fox is trying to be funny, and Faust is trying to call the game. I loved Jim Fox’s analyses over the years, but he isn’t as insightful as he used to be. The lack of chemistry between them is distracting.

Faust's announcing is deplorable...Called Chiarot's name like 6 times in one shift and was wrong half the time! Bungled other names and players and when he didn't know the players name he'd say and the Canadiens are breaking out to cover his stupidity

Interesting point because I was also including the Tweens, teens etc. Sadly they won't know what unbiased pbp is.

For me it's the whole issue. I don't really care if someone pronounces every name correctly and has a great voice.

I want someone who makes it interesting, whether that's through humor, genuine excitement, or unique insight into the game. Sadly Faust provides nothing from my checklist.

He's awful but I think fox is more annoying. I listen to away broadcast more. Sad how terrible it is now.

It’s weird because Jim Fox is excellent on NHL XM radio interviews. He’s way too high strung on TV but in those interviews he’s totally different.

I think if whoever makes the broadcast team decisions should move some guys around, There needs to be a huge shuffle.

Can Faust, send Jim Fox to Patrick O’Neal position, send Patrick O’Neal to replace Miss Bathe who can stick to the digital content material.

Hire two new guys to the booth, maybe Stoll as the color guy and find someone interesting in the mold of Harry Doyle.

I mentioned it in the other thread, but I do like Faust overall. I think the issues with the broadcast itself stem from the chemistry between Fox and Faust and perhaps the producers that run it. When Faust or Fox do broadcasts for Sirius or NBC they are very good and much better than when they're on FSW/Bally and maybe that's cause they're broadcasting to a national audience. But those statistics that we found we're in like the bottom 3 for viewership in the NHL isn't a good sign. Now I mostly think that's because the team hasn't been shit since 2014, but you can obviously see a dip in quality since Bob left.

I just want someone who doesn't get bored by the game.
