Watching that OT goal replay (that they’ve shown a dozen times already!) Rangers should patent that play.

Trochek absolutely turned ALL 3 Wild players inside out by coming round the net, then up top, then down the slot. All 3 Wild then covered the wrong guy, as impossible as that sounds. Even Rossi skated off to another zip code.

Perfecto.
Yup, except for Panarin's pass needing to go under Gustaffson's left pad which is an easy block for an ECHL goalie. This imo makes it possibly our weakest goal of the evening (and there were quite a few stinkers that we benefitted from)

He was great last night, probably his best game of the year. Dragged Faber along with him multiple times and even when he didn't make the best decision with the puck on his stick, it's because he decided to throw a pretty good chance on net himself, nothing wrong with that. At ES, he was basically flawless (hated his shot selection on the 5v3, but it's hardly a blemish on what was a spectacular effort otherwise.)

His issues have never been the RS (where he leads the team in scoring since he's been here by a lot) it's the playoffs where he's 4th since he's been here and would be 5th had Trocheck been here for all 3 runs.

A big part of that is that he doesn't play the way he did last night. PS Panarin is a perimeter low percentage shot/pass spamming machine which is default mode for him when he starts to panic. He doesn't work get the puck into those areas. I totally understand that it's harder, but that doesn't excuse the lack of trying in lieu of what end up being net negative plays. I forget who said it last night, but someone tried to absolve him for his playoff ineptitude because the team hasn't been very good at offense but that argument carries no weight because

A. He's been the top paid winger in the league since he signed his contract (until next year.) At 11.6 million, the expectation should be elite production.

B. He's been out produced by other guys who get basically identical usage.

f*** Laviolette, the dumb slob should go.

Dumb slob is not responsible for Panarin's playoff failures. Those are on Artemi.
I'm fine if the argument is wanting him gone because he can't get it done in the playoffs, but the argument that he has to go because everyone else on the team picks up his bad habits or whatever - that's not on Panarin, that's on the coach.

Crazy how - I realize for sure last season that our PP was obviously overperforming and we relied on it WAY too much. I contemplated "what if we come down to earth and produce like normal?". I NEVER contemplated "what if theyre in the bottom 5 of the league next year" It makes no sense at all.
How do you decide that the team was overperforming last year vs significantly underperforming this year?

He almost did it again on the PP in the 3rd. He's lucky he got tripped up because he skated himself into an impossible position, as he often does.
Not absolving him, but it's not going to work when he's the only one skating. The other guys should've been moving and rotating with him so that he'd have an outlet.

A lot of these egregious turnovers from the defense can be chalked up to a lack of support from the forwards, I agree. There are rarely 5 players in the frame , especially in the D-zone. K'Andre is also just more prone to them than others.

GP obviously needs to strengthen to improve his board play, he didn't win any board battles but did try to finesse win a few times and came close. He also misread the cycle a few times and headed to slot or the wrong direction when he should have been along the boards or providing close support, but that makes sense as the style is different in the NHL versus college and practicing with the team will help that.

He showed excellent offensive instincts, if this guy has any time and space he's going to make big time plays as he shows on the PP and the fast break where Laf comedically blew a tire. He didn't even get to use his smooth mits, I'm sure he doesn't want to ef up a deke and needs confidence first. His ability to know where he wants to get the puck before he has it was top notch. That no-look one touch pass to the slot on the PP was medium rare bone-in rib steak grilled to perfection.

Then put him on IR.

If its good enough for this board to say it about Kreids, then it's good enough to say about Trocheck.
fair enough but I still say he has positive value especially when who are we realistically gonna put at center ice for the final 7 games in his place?
If we had our first round pick I would say shut him down but because we don't have one I would rather try to make the playoffs.

With Kreider I feel its almost a positive if he's watching in street clothes.

This team is fighting for their playoff lives and they looked like they were playing a mid November game.

No intensity. No passion. Careless with the puck. Lazy plays that kill momentum. The PP? Where has that gone? I'm not even talking about a top 10 PP, give me top 15 efficiency.

Drury, or whoever is the GM after the season, has a LOT of work to do this summer.

Same with the new coach.
I agree that the pp is shot. Not sure if its an effort thing, a mental thing/confidence whatever. Although I was one of the ones calling for the 2nd unit to start with Fox early in the game.

On the other hand I thought they played ok and with some intensity. Especially for a home game where they usually come out sucking. I know Minnesota isn't great right now but they are a desperate team too.

Until the lazy Laf penalty.(that was a lazy play to kill momentum for sure) and of course the egregious turnovers are still a problem but overall it wasn't a home dud like we are used to.

Rangers losing to a Hughes and Hamilton less Devils team in the midst of a playoff race where they cant afford to lose a point is unfortunately a movie I have seen many times before
This is gonna be that fan base’s Stanley Cup. Prepare yourself for a flat first period. No shots until the 10 min mark when Vodka throws a limp wrister into the chest. I see no way we win. They haven’t shown once all year they’re capable of showing up for a game like this

I didn't think Key was bad for the most part but that giveaway would get you benched in pee wee hockey. That was easily avoided.
I mean he makes these mistakes enough that we all bitch but the whole team is bad about the same general kind of careless play with the puck in all areas of the ice

I can't even decide if it's a player thing or we've just had so many coaches...basically since Torts, that won't crack the whip on those kind of stupid turnovers. And the players seem to only have two modes...careless free wheeling hockey or ultra conservative can't make a single play with the puck because they're just banking it off the boards an out.

Just bizarre at this point

on thatplay where he got tripped he had an opportunity to move it to a teammate on the boards and just wanted to circle back and reset. It wasn't a great play even without teammates skating

TBH I think he just plays like he thinks he has more skill than he does sometimes. His best skills are straight ahead skating and general smoothness, knowing how to effectively use his reach and stick, and...that's about it. His passing and stickhandling and shooting are fine but not at the level he tries to play them at.
