In an absolute shitshow of a Misa back and forth including our own Jux (and some wild accusations levied against her), someone posted the OHL coaches' poll, with relevant results:
  • Smartest player, Eastern: Martone #3, Western: Misa #1
  • Best playmaker, Eastern: Martone #3, Western: Misa #2
  • Best skater, Western: Schaefer #1, Sam Dickinson T(3) with Parekh (!)
  • Best shot, Western: Halttunen #1
  • Best stickhandler, Eastern: Martone T(3)
  • Best offensive defenseman, Western: Parekh #1, Dickinson #2, Schaefer #3
  • Best Defensive Defenseman, Western: Schaefer #3
  • Best shootout shooter, Eastern: Martone #1
FWIW, the accuser hates (or at least thinks they are overrated) both Martone and Misa.

The most interesting part of that poll to me is Dickinson finishing ahead of Schaefer as an offensive defenseman.

Should we be concerned about Misa's lack of playoff production? I find it difficult to get excited about anyone in this class apart from Schaefer.

I am equally as concerned about Misa's lack of playoff production as I am about Celebrini's recent lack of production. Both likely need to make adjustments to their play, but neither is a big concern.

Never 4get, I am a certified Michael Misa Fanboy(tm).

I am a little. He's been awful. The positive is maybe it would let Misa drop to 3, since Hagens' postseason was quite good.

Are you guys concerned about Chernyshov’s playoffs? I imagine the other team is explicitly trying to shut him and Misa down, so while they might be struggling it also feels like it’s part of developing?
I think it's just Saginaw's style doesn't work in playoff hockey. Bad goaltending and non-existent defence is kind of the playoff antithesis. There confidence looked pretty shook early in the series and I wonder where the coaching was for the whole team.

I just want you to feel satisfied at the end of the season that we did all we could to be the worst team in the league

If McQueen starts to fall, I think you've got to go get him. Injuries may cause him to bust- and back injury with a big guy especially- but if he hits you've got a template who's impossible to acquire via trade.

Let's say 60% chance of bust, 15% chance of first liner, 25% chance of middle sixer. I think that'd be worth moving Dal 1st, our 2nd, and maybe even Ott/Col 26 2nd.

Would you rather have McQueen or Nesbitt, Tretheway, and Amico? I like all three of those guys, but we've got loads of prospects (admittedly none but Pohlkamp at RD), that I'd rather load up for higher end talent.

I guess to some degree it could depend on whether you draft Schaefer or one of the forwards, but still he'll fall for a completely legitimate reason, but SJ can be a bit risky.

I don't think he falls far. You just need one team to go for his size, and teams have done stupider things for size.

Let’s hope if we fall to 3rd, the two teams ahead of us get real excited by Hagens and Misa…
It’s a legit possibility that nobody is talking about. I think it’s funny seeing some Hagens hate but reality is he should be a 1C/elite 2C and only one that qualifies for that in 25 other than Misa imo.

I think SJ and SEA are the only 2 teams that would take Schaefer @ 1. Should be a very interesting draft. I’m hoping sharks win Tankathon so that I don’t care as much about results of lotto

Schaefer is the clear-cut BPA. I think that any team other than Buffalo would simply take him 1st overall. I'm personally not getting my hopes up.
I mean he has been hurt all year except for a few games when his hype started blowing up. There is definitely risk with Schaefer as well. I don’t see “clear cut” by any means but it’s subjective and best not to get hopes up in general haha.

As I've said, there are reasons not to take Schaefer 1st overall, between his injury and the disappointing history of defensemen picked 1st overall. But that doesn't change the fact that Schaefer is the best prospect in this draft and it's not questionable. I have quite literally never seen a bad game from Schaefer, from last May's U18, to the Hlinka this summer, to the dozen games I watched him with Erie this winter, to the US-CHL showcase, to his game and a half at the U20 before he got hurt. Every single time I saw him play was better than the last. Meanwhile every other prospect in this draft goes games at a time where they're just there, and their highs simply aren't as high as Schaefer's.
