Chabot will be fine, and he adds an element of transition and offence that neither Chych or Sandy have in their game.

His skating is better, he is faster, and he is much more dynamic with the puck. He also has better offensive instincts.

He is also a leadership pillar on the team who was in the running for captain and wears a letter. He is huge in the community for French speakers, and he is a core player.

You don’t trade this guy, you help him get better and put him in positions to excel.

Sandy looks to be the best with a smart stick, D positioning, and gap control. He’s also an excellent skater and is no slouch in the O zone. He seems like an excellent 2way player.

Chych we’ll have to see, but he is the most physically strong in the D zone, has a big shot and nice wrister, can play in all zones, and is also a great skater.

All in all we have three star defencemen who excel in different areas of the game, but complement each other well and are assets to the team.

This is a group of three, with the defensive D man in Zub to make 4 for now, that you build a championship D core out of.

We should not be looking to trade Chabot for a quantity move, the rising cap isn’t going to be an issue for us over the next several years as all of our young stars are going to be on deals that get better each year.

Big no to moving out a D now that we have a top 4 to rival our top 6. if Kleven can live up to his potential, and either Branstrom or another guy can step in, we’ll have a sick group of 6 that can do it all.

Leave Chabby alone!!! ;)
And they have two 1st rd RDs waiting in the wings for their opportunity, one of them should get it next yr.

It's interesting that this team has had it's share of adversity this yr yet they are much improved from last season & here we are with less than 20 games left in this season & they are still in a playoff race.

They started the yr without Formenton because of the incident & then they lost Norris for the yr, our leading goal scorer from last yr. While Chabot, Batherson & it could be argued deBrincat are all having down seasons this team is still doing rather well & of course injuries have hurt, especially to our goaltenders.

You have to be impressed with how well they have fought the adversity & it goes to their potential next season as they move on from some of their aging players & graduate some other good prospects for next season. This team should only be better next yr & hopefully be a playoff team.

Thomas Chabot has been very disappointing this season, he has become a liability for us, Thomas is a very nice guy but he's not getting paid to be nice, he needs to play with more emotions and jam. He's too loosey goosey out there!
He can't hit/won't hit. I don't mean blow guys up, just hit. And he avoids contact.

I understand why, he has often been injured after a big hit. Avoiding contact is not an issue if you play smartly and fast. Sanderson is like that. Sometimes with Chabot avoiding contact leads to losing the puck.

Sanderson absorbs contact.

Buuuuulllshit.

Chabot has 69 (nice) hits on the year. 12th on the team, behind only Zub and Hammer on the D corps.

He also has the second most blocks on the team, just so ya know. One of those kind of important defensive stats.

Avoids contact. What a load of shit.

He has by far the most TOI of the D so it's kind of logical.

Haven’t been in the GDT’s much this year. Has Chabot become the whipping boy now that Zaitsev was traded away?

He's up there on the list.

First its the 4th line players. Not much you can say if they are going to be criticized for not being top 6 caliber.
Then its the 5/6/7 D other than Brannstrom for the most part Holden gets it because he platoons with Brannstrom and he is getting older and slower.. Hamonic takes some heat because of his old school non PMD style.
Then we have Batherson and his green jacket defence..
Then Chabot for any goal that goes in while he is on the ice along with the glaringly obvious errors

Pretty much low hanging fruit on all these things. Not much for particulars . A lot of hyperbole. Life in the GDT..
Its a blast.

There are a few even less enjoyable characteristics but the sprinkling here and there of good observations and comments all make it marginally somewhat entertaining. lol

He's never been great defensively but was definitely better in previous years.

What has been more disappointing is his lack of offensive contributions. 35 points in 60 games doesn't look that bad but after you consider he's getting to QB one of the best powerplays in the league that isn't actually very good. Racked up a lot of assists from that, but hasn't created much on his own.

Getting driven like a rented mule for years has changed his game for the worse. His poise has morphed into inattentiveness, softness and outright laziness at times.

He definitely could use a change of scenery. Hopefully he can rediscover his game if we get a new coach next season.

He's blocked more shots per 60 and made more hits per 60 than Sanderson, does anyone accuse Sanderson of avoiding contact?
Nah, no one here seems to want to use stats. They'll use their eye test, confirmation bias, and feelings instead.

The worst part is, some people make some valid points, but won't actually look at or use underlying numbers to back it up.

Or even if they do use stats (ahem, hales post above me), they couch any good stats with some made up shit. Chabby has the most PPG of his career this year at 5. But that's not actually good because he's QBing the best PP in the league - which I guess he's benefitting from, but not contributing to? GTFO

If you think Chabot is a great PP QB you need your eyes checked.

He would be great if he didn't have a muffin of a shot, but unfortunately he's not a shooting threat at all.

He's good at starting the breakout and moves the puck well at the point, but there's no question PKers can cheat and focus more on the sides because Chabot's shot isn't dangerous whatsoever.

We should try Chychrun on the top PP for that reason.

Chabot has less PP points per 60 than Sanderson. Given how Chabot plays a full two minutes more than Sanderson on the PP you'd better hope that Chabot hits a career high for anything on the PP. Even in his one elite season, Chabot wasn't exactly the most productive defender we had on the PP based on the amount of ice time he has.

Besides Chabot greatest strength has always been his 5v5 play. His only elite season, he was an evens strength beast.

Like we're not even "hating" on Chabot lol, its valid critique that he's not the most effective PP defender.

You called him the QB. We all know Jimmy runs that unit. Where did I call him a great QB? Need to get your eyes checked?

Chych is getting PP time. Let's see how he settles in and go from there. If anything, both units need a shakeup, but that's not a Chabot thing, that's a 10 man problem. But thay doesn't fit your angle now, does it?

You're losing the plot and any sense of objectivity.

While Sanderson has more pts per 60, Chabot's on ice G/60 is better, as is the xGF/60, in fact, the xGF/60 with Chabot is top 5 in the league.

Contribution to goals doesn't always show up on the stats sheet.

Where'd you get the on ice g/60 stat from?

I looked up on NHL.com and Sanderson has a higher G/60

Brannstrom (1) and Sanderson (2) lead the team in takeaways/60.
Sanderson also has the least giveaways / 60 of all D
Chabot has the 3rd most giveaways ... 0.04 less than Brannstrom per 60. (they are close)
Chabot and Holden are tied (5/6) for the fewest takeaways per 60.
Sanderson leads all D in penalties drawn per 60 while taking the fewest penalties per 60
Sanderson also leads in Hits Taken per 60.. Leading all D in hits taken while having the fewest giveaways ..is cool

Blocking a shot is good. Having to block one isn't.

New coach first, change of scenery is a last resort. Chabot has been with DJ the longest eventually coaches go stale and we have seen Chabot be a beast. Chabot signed here long term before it was cool to do it. He could have went the Matthews and other RFA route and not given us any of his UFA years. I am ok with returning the favour and being loyal back and giving chances to those kind of guys.

Guess being the 5th best PP was in spite of him. Another beauty take there

The claim being refuted was about Chabot avoiding contact, I presented his blocked shots and hits per 60 to back up that he isn't avoiding contact since someone wasn't satisfied with raw hits and blocks.

I'm not debating whether Chabot has had a better season than Sanderson

It kind of is though?

He's fine but by no means is he the reason our top PP has been so effective.
I don't think there's any one player I'd say is the reason we've had a good pp, everyone is contributing, Chabot included. To say it's doing well in spite of him isn't really accurate,

I have my issues with how Chabot has played, particularly defensively, but he's not been a passenger on the PP.
