Hate to say it but this team is going nowhere. Just bad decisions after bad decisions and players who are only committed to the $ and not winning/ottawa. Overpaying Pinto while he’s suspended for gambling, Tkachuk two years away from leaving, and no game breakers on the team with an empty prospect pool. It’s not looking good folks.

Worst case scenario I think a retool happens, not a full rebuild, but I also think there's enough room for Staios to do what he needs to do to stay competitive.

All of which becomes easier if we hit on some draft picks, which with maybe a few exceptions, I haven't been that optimistic about.

Rebuilds don't always work the first time. Edmonton's rebuild with Taylor Hall, RNH, Yakupov and MPS failed. Florida were seemingly rebuilding for 20 years before they figured it out. It is what is. This team just needs to keep adding good players.

It's the billboard gang again!

We had more regulation wins and a better goal differential than Montreal.

One of the stingiest teams in the nhl, with the sixth best points percentages since Jan 1.

But we lost to the #1 seed in the East! What a frickin travesty!

Just go root for the Yankees.

You lack the emotional fortitude to be a fan of a non-perennial favourite. I worry if you settled for just a top-five favourite we'd find you in a bathtub rambling to your toaster.

I am not sure why you think it's that bad. Just a few changes with some key pieces, and we are right there. I am still on the trade Brady wavelength. His stock is high with two years left; trade him now, as he will not sign here.

Yeah seriously. 1 all star goaler, 2 superstar forwards, a superstar d, and a top tier coach away.

We got this.

We really need to hit, and soon...like get an unexpected 19 year old in there like havlat or Hossa or something. Otherwise, not sure where this injection of talent or youth will come from in our forwards.

Worst case scenario is definitely a rebuild...unless you're saying a retool is worse than a rebuild?

Without losing any, is the key.

If we just keep swapping good players, we probably don't see any drastic improvements unless the players we swap them with are much better players.

Having more wins and less points than another team that goes much further in the playoffs is not the type of flex you think it is.

Getting more points in the season is more important than getting more wins in the season...also, going further in the playoffs Trump's either...

Right there, where? Right there, able to potentially win a first round? Or right there, able to make a strong case to go for and win a cup?

More like a Spezza.

Rebuild - give me a break. 99 points with some great core pieces locked into team friendly long term deals, and we're heading into a rebuild? Please. Look at teams like Boston, Tampa, Vegas - they don't rebuild, they just reload. With solid ownership, management and coaching and a great young core, the Sens are in the best place they have been since the early/mid 2000s.

There's also an element of randomness to all of this for which we don't account. Let's look at Carolina - they were close for a lot of years, but not quite there. All of a sudden the guy universally pegged to be the third goalie and on his way out of the organization in Andersen goes on fire in the playoffs, and they hit on a great young prospect in Stankoven who was the product of salvaging a botched trade in getting Rantanen. Carolina has made some great moves, but sometimes you just have to be lucky and have all the pieces come together for you - it's the randomness of sports.

Different sport, but I'll never forget the fact that arguably the greatest NFL team ever assembled, the 2007 Patriots, lost the Super Bowl on the flukiest catch you will ever see in your life. Sports can be random, folks - that's why gambling on it is really dumb. Just enjoy the games and the chase...
