you know what I meant

and the Oilers best forwards didn't score....is the Oilers strength offense or goaltending?

The Penguins won 3 Cups, played in four game 7s during those runs, Crosby and Malkin scored a combined 0 goals in those four game 7s (also 0 goals in game 6 and 7 of the 2009 Finals when they were down 2-3). They won every single one of those games.

You don't get to fancy pants pond hockey scoring your way to Cups. You better have another dimension to your team that is outstanding beyond just "we got 2 great players! Give us Cup!" ... like good goaltending, like the Penguins had or the most loaded roster in about 10 years like the Avalanche had.

You can't just hang your hat on two players alone and demand a Cup. That isn't how shit works in the modern NHL. Even the 80s Oilers never won just based on "Gretzky + Messier Bro!"

On the one hand we have a forward who won the Conn Smythe for his scoring prowess in a losing effort, which is extraordinarily rare…

And on the other we have Mr. .901.

No, it’s obviously McDavid who was the problem.:laugh:

Oil, great team with a shite goaltender, record is in spite of not because. Been more impressed with the career backup/AHLer.

Overpay a ton for Saros

We can deal with the aftermath later. That's how GM's works. Let the next guy deal with it.

A cup is worth a lifetime of memories. We lost 2006, last year

Just do it.

Get Gibson as a second option. Just pay up.

Lifetime memories don't come alone often.

Skinner is still young and has room for improvement, but at this point isn't a sure fire reliable #1 that we can count on to take us all the way. His record this year against better teams is very concerning. Pickard has been a great backup, far better than expected, but also can't expect him to maintain that level of play against better opposition. Would be a shame to have our season derailed by poor goaltending at an inopportune time. We need to turn over over stone and try and get at least a 1B that can push Skinner and takeover if/when needed. It's frustrating, as he is very good when he's on. And I get that for the money we are paying him he is living up to his contract, but at this stage in our teams cycle we need more consistency. And I know that every goalie is inconsistent, but we need to improve the depth of the position to ensure we take that next step.

I dont really by the "Skinner is young and can improve" argument.

First off in terms of development, he seems to be getting worse while the team continues to get better. At best he has stagnated in his development. He started with a .913 his first year (only 10 games) and a .914 is his first full year as starter. Last year he was a .905 and now this year he's a .902.

Second, he has never shown massive upside. His entire career dating back to the WHL the best career save percentage he has posted is .920 twice. He's never had a season better then that.

Finally, he's already 26 with only 1 more year before free agency so he's not exactly young. If he doesn't figure it out this year were screwed. If he does, he's going to command a fortune. He needs to figure it out fast. Hes the same age as guys like Woll and Swayman. Same age as Hill when he won the cup and older than Binnington when he won.

The guy who scored the game winning goal against us was their top goal scorer. Their top players came to play ours didn’t is what it is.

the Panthers best goal scorer of the season scored the Cup winning goal....not some grinder

therefore, their best sniper scored the most important goal of the season....did ours?

0 points in games 6 and 7
Skinner gave up 3 whole goals in 2 games...how dare he

Again, you are openly admitting to putting more onus for the club coming up short on the Conn Smythe winner, and not the goalie with a historically bad 0.901 save percentage? This is a real argument?

Easier to score on the worst starter of any playoff team versus trying to score on Bob in a game 7. Not the same thing. Skinner is not a big ticket goalie.

If your whole identity as a team is basically "We have two great players, you should just roll over and hand us the Cup!" ... that isn't going to work. You need to have some other outstanding element to your team, as Pittsburgh had with outstanding goaltending or Colorado with outstanding overall team depth due to outstanding management moves (Toews deal? Slam dunk. Nichushkin deal? Slam dunk. Makar drafting? Slam dunk. Kadri for Barrie? Slam dunk, etc. etc. etc.).

yes....are you really gonna tell me that if you knew Skinner would only give up 3 goals in Game 6 and 7 and we had McDavid and Draisaitl on our team that we would lose the Cup?

You are 100% wrong. When sh** hits the fan ( like people love to talk about our offense), you better have a last line of defense if that happens. Full Stop.

That's called being careful and proactive. The big guys who "didn't score and produce" TOOK US TO GAME 7 FFS.

One broke 99's record. The other was an MVP

Do you expect these two individuals to hold everybody's hand?

A team is about BALANCE

Who is the last line of D in hockey and face a ton of shots (ours don't). The GOALIE

Unless you're team, which ours doesn't, allow a zillion high danger chances against...

THEY HAVE TO DO THEIR JOB TOO

The numbers show over a long period of time, he doesn't!

Unless you are related to Skinner or you are a lover of his, I have no idea how people defend this guy.

Folks, this is not rocket science.

Yeah ... how many Cups did Gretzky and Lemieux and Crosby and Ovechkin win with a Stuart Skinner tier goalie in net?

I'll wait.

But yeah we're supposed to be thrilled that instead of just properly building a team we are instead fixated on being a science experiment of how shitty of a goalie can you have and still win with? Being the smartest person in the room is more important to this franchise.

Skinner has to be better, there can't be a single Oilers fan that doesn't question it. There has to be some form of upgrade at the trade deadline.

They won't do shit, they're too stupid.

They already have set up the excuse which is "we neeeeed more scoring, even if we could get a goalie we can't cuz forwards" as if they aren't the f***ing morons who spent 10 million dollars in the summer on forwards who aren't contributing much and then lost Holloway and Broberg for peanuts in the process.

It’s game 6 and 7 of the Stanley cup finals. I expect more than nothing. Or is that too much?
No, you have a right to think that. But why do our top guys (WHO TOOK US TO THAT FINAL) get sh** on?

I crap on them too in the reg season. They put us in that position to even get there

I crap on Leon and Connor a lot, but these two are our backbones.
