Post-Game Talk: This team has a problem in net

Have we won with him though? You know I'd be glad to change my stance if he won, but he hasn't won a Cup. That's all that matters
we made to the Cup finals FFS
how do you know another goalie doesn't come in and choke Hellebuyck-style in the playoffs?

He did though. If Pickard didn't bail him out in the Canucks series (he almost shit the bed in game 7 after coming back as well), they would have lost in the 2nd round.
Skinner had a .963 save percentage in Games 5 and 6 against the Stars.

I guess it depends what you consider "solid." There are 43 goals who have played at least 20 games this season (arbitrary number just trying to cover #1/1B type goalies). Skinner is 26th of 43 among those goalies in sv%. That's well into the bottom half. I'd hardly consider that solid for our starting goalie.

It doesn't matter if he's in his mid 20s or how much he's making. What matters is we need someone better in net. Or at the very least someone who has a chance at taking over when Skinner tanks it again come playoff time.
This team starts terrible though. We were a complete joke early. Coming into tonight skinner was 13-5-2 with a .921 in his last 20 games. That’s a long stretch of very good goaltending no? The team was mess everywhere to start the year. By the end of the year skinners numbers will be back around .910 exactly like that last year which had an even longer bad start. We start everything bad. Seasons, individual games, playoff series. That’s this teams identity for whatever reason.

And even teams who won cups haven't been as devoted to their players as we have been to our goalies. Vegas, Colorado, Washington, Pittsburgh come to mind as teams to change it up in net even after winning. And it's an even bigger list when it comes to runner ups. Of course it's not always the case, but for instance with Bobrovsky, the guy won a Vezina before and had an immovable contract.

The offside challenge needs to be taken out of the game. We're the only professional sports league that tries to take offense away. If you need to go over a play and look at it in hundreds of a second frames, maybe you've lost the plot.
Take the electronics off the bench and make them challenge watching play live.Or at very least if defending team touches puck afterwards and failed to clear then it should be play on.I agree they are breaking it down way to much

Stu having two good games in the playoffs = proof he is the guy

Stu being an abysmal regular season goalie and shitting the bed multiple times in the playoffs = means nothing

I feel like that stat with the .921 has been quoted for weeks. Is it still accurate? Plus, that early part of the season still counts, and we were putting up elite defense in that time, with the only issue being less scoring

Were the Oilers on a delayed penalty when the non-goal was scored? I thought I heard we were going on the PP. Then the Oilers scored. If the play was determined to be offside, we should have been on the PP following the review.
There was no delayed penalty, Cuthbert misspoke and then corrected himself.

Skinner is still young and has room for improvement, but at this point isn't a sure fire reliable #1 that we can count on to take us all the way. His record this year against better teams is very concerning. Pickard has been a great backup, far better than expected, but also can't expect him to maintain that level of play against better opposition. Would be a shame to have our season derailed by poor goaltending at an inopportune time. We need to turn over over stone and try and get at least a 1B that can push Skinner and takeover if/when needed. It's frustrating, as he is very good when he's on. And I get that for the money we are paying him he is living up to his contract, but at this stage in our teams cycle we need more consistency. And I know that every goalie is inconsistent, but we need to improve the depth of the position to ensure we take that next step.

Why can't more people be like Bob.

I can't believe people are still defending Skinner. At this point you can't take CantHaveTkachevs opinions on hockey seriously. He's obviously bought and paid for by the Skinner-Schwartz foundation and corrupt beyond belief.

Stuart skinner was good enough to put them in a position to play 1 game and win the cup and they didn’t. That’s not on him.
We wouldn't have needed him for a game 7. Literally almost every other goaltender would've won us every series before I got to game 7.

The .921 was his last 20 games coming into tonight. We had I believe the 4th worst PK in history through 14 games so no scoring wasn’t the only issue we were getting torched.

Here is what I don't understand (I do, it's incompetence) but I am just typing it this way.

How do you have a billion dollar org. You have a former gym teacher and goalie coach (not in a pro league).

You buy this team. You see for over 10 years that this position is an issue. It's not the only issue, but it is.

You let some idiot recommend to trade for Campbell. Buyouts after buyouts.

You lose the SCF on a crap goal.

You almost lose the first round.

You have a guy who breaks 99's assists playoff record. You have another MVP who has multiple 50 goal years.

If you told me this, I would think you have at least 1 cup.

This is like keeping the shittiest employee at a sales center because he is a good guy.

Not about results.

I have had a big company. I wouldn't have let this go on for so long.

I wonder what goes on in these guys heads to watch this over and over and not even hint at some solution.

Imbeciles.

I’ll play Devils advocate here…Skinner almost single handedly lost us that Vancouver series and he wasn’t very good in the LA series either.
It would be prudent for the Oilers to bring in another goalie who can push Skinner and possibly take over that #1 role if he falters again

The only explanation that makes any sense at this point is Schwartz is boning a Katz or whatever that rumour was

This guy who defends Skinner lol. I can't even explain it. Insane.

The patterns, the numbers, the goalie movements, the puck tracking don't like

I almost think it's his wife (if he is married)

Last year I said Skinner would never get his name on the Cup and Hells Bells I was right. But at this point who gives a shit about last year?
Might as well bring up the year Rollie got hurt and we had to go with two shitty goalies, how did that turn out?
If we don’t acquire another goalie management is cooked.

As an outsider looking in,I think he is a good goalie for the most part. The stats you have showed here support that .One thing they do not show though are the weak back breakers he let's in.Winning goal tonite was bad right along the ice between legs.Winning goal game 7 vs Florida was kind of soft.If he can just make the saves he is suppose to make then I think Edm will win the Cup.

Not defending Schwartz, just sharing info. Personally I have wanted a new goalie coach for years but what I’m to understand is Schwartz is absolutely cerebral at identifying a goaltender’s weaknesses. I think the oilers are afraid to sail the ship but honestly for the life of me I don’t understand why they wouldn’t just replace him at the coaching position and pay him to consult.
