Everyone outside the market seems to get it, too.

Particularly the advanced stats guys.
That's the scary thing. Our coaching and player buy in when it comes to defense has been inspiring this year. Imo it even forgives a lot of the poor shooting. The team has collectively chosen not to cheat for offense.

And yet there are statistical measures that have goalies on bottom teams doing better than what we have. You have to seriously doubt those advanced stats on D in order to defend Skinner, or Pickard.

He also gave away the series vs the Golden Knights the year before and almost f***ed up the series clinching win vs the Kings that same year.

He sucks.
If Knobloch was our coach he moves him out for a couple of games like he did vs the Canucks and we probably go on to win the cup that year. Woodcroft just kept throwing him out there. I agree with you he was awful in that series though.

.857 but that is NOT a surprise. Those are his numbers against Toronto. What is Knobloch doing putting him in in the first place. 100% we would have won with Pickard. Get a starter FFS and run 3 goalies then punt the worst one.
I'm glad Knoblauch played Skinner there. How much coddling can we do for him? You don't get to pick your opponent in the playoffs. Knoblauch gave Skinner a chance to reverse that narrative. Games like this might get management to wake up.

what was his save percertage in elimination games?

He was barely average for 2 and was great for 2. But what I'm trying to say, you are down 3-0 the series is over lol. If you were watching not as an Oilers fan, you wouldn't have this perspective.

Are Skinner Stans forgetting he hired a shrink last season due to crumbling under pressure?

The guy isn't far off from being a Jack Campbell mental disaster. He just has a better poker face
Difference is he makes 2 million bucks for one more year, is in his mid 20’s and still got about as close as you can get to winning the cup without winning. Obviously this wasn’t a strong game but it’s magnified because the team has a 5.25 shooting% and is making every goalie look like Hasek. Skinners has overall been solid for most of this season. That is a fact.

i just hate how this team makes me feel when they lose, I really wish I didn't care as much as I do. I have ZERO to do with the outcome of the game, so it shouldn't mean that much to me. Being a fan is a pain in the A$$ sometimes, at least for me, it is.

He got carried to the Finals. He had a good series against Dallas but was otherwise mediocre / bad (who gives a shit against the Kings, the Kings were never going to win that series and Skinner wasn't great in the one loss - made up for in that shut out, sure).

How many games would you say he's "stolen" this year...one? Maybe two? Doesn't matter what he's getting paid, he's the starter.

Can you imagine Skinner making the save Woll did on Perry at the end of the game?

Good lord.

This isn't even a defend Skinner post but my lawd has this forum become bias and illogical.

Could you imagine if both Nuge and another Oiler didn't get stuffed by a DMAN on a REBOUND for an easy tap in?

Our D gave up 2 uncontested rebounds.

Stetchers was particularly horrible.

This fanbase blowing Woll right now except he got bailed out by 2-3 posts and his d on rebounds

we was also good in Game 5 against the Kings, Game 6 and 7 against the Nucks and GREAT in Games 5 and 6 against the Stars
this whole "we can't win with him!" narrative is nonsense

Skinjob let in 4 goals on not nearly enough shots

C'est tout

A trip by the Leafs board and they’re all circle jerking over Woll. It’s almost like a goalie can steal you a game.
Nah, that can’t happen

It’s a cap league though so it does matter what he’s being paid and even so he’s done well. In fact if you put it in the greater context of the whole Jack Campbell thing he’s actually bailed the team out of what could have been a much worse, franchise crippling disaster of a signing.

No one gets carried to a cup finals. You don’t make a cup finals if someone is being carried. To even get there every single player has to be making positive contributions.

Imo it is fair to judge goalies based on the base objective stats moreso than other players. They don't have chemistry issues the way skaters do. The exception would be the quality of the defense, which is hard to measure but with advanced stats one could argue we've done it.

It can seem like a goalie is giving overall good performance but it is possible that they are being propped up by good defense, and arguably that has happened on the Oilers.

Basically our defense is near the top of the league in performance, and yet Skinner only has a .902 percentage and 2.71 GAA. That's only competitive with the worst teams in the league

I could see keeping Skinner just in case, but aren't you curious to grab a goalie with better stats than Skinner from a non-playoff team, just to see? There are quite a few to pick from

Skinner is still young and has room for improvement, but at this point isn't a sure fire reliable #1 that we can count on to take us all the way. His record this year against better teams is very concerning. Pickard has been a great backup, far better than expected, but also can't expect him to maintain that level of play against better opposition. Would be a shame to have our season derailed by poor goaltending at an inopportune time. We need to turn over over stone and try and get at least a 1B that can push Skinner and takeover if/when needed. It's frustrating, as he is very good when he's on. And I get that for the money we are paying him he is living up to his contract, but at this stage in our teams cycle we need more consistency. And I know that every goalie is inconsistent, but we need to improve the depth of the position to ensure we take that next step.
