Unless guys like Crosby and Malkin ask out, nobody just rebuilds because they're old. Or because they're not great. Most teams, most of the time, if they can possibly make the playoffs, even if it's just for 2 home games, they will try to do that.

There's a practical reason that there are only 5 real contenders at any given time, while there might be 5 teams that are truly rebuilding, with the vast majority of the league as a mushy middle, that outside of a career run by someone, isn't doing a damn thing except maybe make the 2nd rd. Most rebuilding efforts will end up in the mushy middle. Or, at most, 1 Cup. As we see in Washington, or Colorado, or any other 1 hit wonder. Granted, even 1 Cup is an accomplishment, but it's never without its companion what if's. The Caps should've won more. Well that's great. If that 1 Cup, well after anyone thought they should've won, isn't enough to satisfy people, then there is no satisfying people.

If Crosby and the Pens are fine doing what they're doing, ultimately it's their choices. It's Crosby's career, and the Pens franchise. If they want to stick together, and maybe eek out a 7 game playoff series, at some point you just have to accept it, and run with it for what it's worth.

Sullivan's going to be the bigger detriment to any rebuild than Dubas or whoever the GM is.

I don't understand why people outside of Pittsburgh don't realize this. The Pens have been a train wreck for multiple years now, despite having 3 different GMs with 3 different ways to build a club. The only constant has been the guy who draws up the game-to-game schemes on how he wants the team to play and what types of players he will play/not play.
Nobody is putting Sullivan on a pedestal, but the roster straight up sucks, so I don't know what magic touch "random Coaching hire" is going to accomplish.

Crosby and Malkin both need good solid wingers to do the heavy lifting for them at this point in their careers.

Pens don't really have those types of players at the moment and it won't get easier for Crosby at 37 and Malkin at 38 as they get older.
Lets be honest. Crosby n malkin for a huge bulk of their careers never had wingers that could push the play for themselves besides Jake, kessel. The difference now like you said is they are too old to be have to be doing that. Crosby will be above 80 points for sure. But they will be a hard earned 80 points.

Crosby wants to be a "one team guy" because it looks cooler for legacy or whatever, but also doesn't want the team to just totally suck and waste his last years of pro hockey, so it kind of is what it is. He and Malkin kind of get in the way of what the Pens need to do which is go full teardown/tank and try to position themselves for Hagens, McKenna, DuPont, whomever.
As does Sullivan. He has never been any good with younger players. Terrible coach for a rebuild.

when did sucking ass for years transpire into job security for a coach.

Plenty fan bases have seen this foolish 1 way blame train from elements of their fans for years. There was vocal blackhawls problems are mainly Qunneville or Kings fans on Sutter being the problem. Constantly you see that.

And it's just not accepting that talent and the aged talent could still be good, but they need to be doing less which requires way better depth and linemates. Different GMs didn't mean the cap situation was ever better because the ownership refusal to rebuild.

I've been always still on they should of traded Letang when rumors were Rutherford "stepped down" because he was going to. Whether that's true or not. They've been on the same bad winless path with no change of coach would of been different. Ride out as a bubble team. You could always have kept Crosby, maybe Malkin and just sold off those other bas contracts for anything draft or future folding. Sullivan's not some hampering force.

Not disagreeing a change is warranted for clarification just don’t think it’ll have a big impact.
Like the last 10 players they moved out and new ones in, like the Norris trophy winner they brought in, like the last GM and President that were fired , and new GM brought in.
Changes get made all the time....with out the guarantee of a "big impact"
Sullivan should have been canned after they lost to the 24th place Habs in the "play in" . The the first round exits that followed , then two yeas of missing the play offs all together , losing to the tanking last place Hawks at home to get eliminated from play offs in game 81. ha! Or this morning after that pathetic effort against the Canes last night.
This guy's escapes accountability like no one Ive ever seen. While everyone else wearing a suit gets shown the door.
