Post-Game Talk: This one lasted a lifetime

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

In the meantime, feel free to join our Discord Server

To be fair, a worse version of our team kind of kicked their ass back in November and they were talking about how good we were. Someone even came here to post something surprised about the next game or something. I have no idea what happened since then. We improved personnel and yet have two in three games where we totalled 25 shots. The team really just seems like they have no interest in the playoffs.

The skill level of the team is factors worse than last years team that still lost in the playoffs. They’re experienced enough to know that they have no realistic shot at a Cup. Outside of a few guys who are self motivated, the rest of the team is running out the clock.

I'm not sure how in this era we can have 3 games this year with around 13 shots.

Big props to everyone who finished this game out. I was busy, wouldn't have watched anyway, but I 100% would've found something to do on an early Saturday afternoon after the first, nevermind the 2nd.

There are guys who seem like they want to be here long-term and guys who seem like they see the writing on the wall. We all know who is in each group. The rest of the way I'm rooting for the guys who will be part of the team moving forward to do well, but this squad doesn't deserve to make the playoffs. It would be better for us long-term to miss. Especially if PuckPedia is correct and we can elect to hand over our pick this year as part of the JT trade.

Sam deserved better than this effort and this season. Im happy to hear he will be around next season for the centennial but the Rangers really need to start building around the guys who take pride in the Rangers. It hasnt felt like that for any extended stretch. This team is depressing. Lets go Mets.

This is what happens when you can't draft. This team had far too many first round whiffs and they're paying the price for it right now.

Also, Berard a healthy scratch is mind blowing. In a lost season where these games mean nothing. Unforgivable.

He's "paying his dues'" or whatever lame rationale. It's also that Johnny Brodz is playing some pretty good hockey and because Drury and the professional scouts had the hots for Parsinnen, they're trying to give him reps to justify the acquisition (he's been beyond terrible since he got here. Just a step above Leschyshyen).

The lines the rest of the year should be:

Kreider-Mika-Cullye
Panarin-Trochek-Othmann
Laf-Miller-Brodz
Rempe-Carrick-Berard.

In a fan fiction world Kreider fess's up about his injuries, they move Berard up, and Roobroeck gets a cup of coffee or Edstrom is able to come back. Then there's reality.

I think I will take the “worse” version thank you. The one good thing about getting J.T. I guess, is that the guys with trade protection are probably more likely to waive that protection. The country club era is definitely over, welcome to prison life starring Drury and Miller.

You mean the version with two of the worst top 4 defensemen in the league on the team and that soon went 4-15?

I don't understand that connection. Assuming we want to hand over our pick this year anyway, how would it be better to miss the playoffs? I'd rather send the pens #16 than #13.

It is not better to miss the playoffs this year. It is strictly better for the Rangers to make the playoffs this year, which guarantees Pittsburgh doesn't get the 2026 pick. The pick is only eligible to move to 2026 if it's in the Top 13, and that's if NYR want to move it (they have the choice of moving the 2025 or 2026 pick to PIT if it's Top 13).

Making the playoffs guarantees the pick is out of the Top 13, meaning the Rangers have to give the Pens the 2025 pick, which means the Pens will get a 1st round pick that is 17-32 in the 2025 draft. That allows the Rangers to tank for a lotto pick in the 2026 draft, assuming they don't anything silly with that pick next season.

We don't want them to have a chance at a top pick in 2026, which would be mindbogglingly insane after they lose Crosby in a few years.

I agree that the 2026 should be a priority to keep with the way this team looks to be heading, but I think it's less about what Pittsburg gets and more about what we could potentially lose out on.

I mean the 2 that should have been bottom 4 D, that were able to help take the team to the final 4 last year. Trouba and Lindgren are better than Jones De Haan and Vakaneinen.

Sam deserves a paycheck. That’s it. The young guys have no more pride in the Rangers than they did in any other team they played for when they were kids. They want to play well so they can make a lot of money. If it’s for the Rangers great. The Devils, just as well. The one guy that has the most pride in being a Ranger is the one player you most want to get rid of. Not judging you, but let’s be serious.

I mean, yes, but combine them: Rangers could potentially lose out on a stud prospect (say, McKenna) AND that pick potentially winds up in the same division.

Yes, but if we want to give this year's pick to the Pens (and I absolutely agree that we should, unless it somehow ends up being top-7), then there's absolutely no advantage to not make the playoffs. So I really don't get how anybody would think it'd be better for the future if we miss.

Would really be nice to have a coach that has a system and is not man-to-man coverage. AV m2m, Quinn (don't count we sucked), Gallant (zero system), Lavi (m2m)

Is it weird to feel like this team doesn't play man to man at all? It seems like every goal scored against us since the team's downfall last year are wide open, uncontested shots. Like our team is comprised of a bunch of geriatrics always a step or ten behind the play.

Well that's because they're trying & failing to play man to man. There's also a reason our PK is by far the best thing on this team because it's zone. Leaves me wondering what our talent level would actually be in a relatively simplistic system that the players could keep up with.

Yep. And the ES M2M is mind-blowing. One of the league's top PKs, with top tier PK goal differential and SHG. Even strength M2M results are a circus. ES zone should seem obvious.

I'm not big on criticizing coaches. I'm just some bum on a couch. But the ES DZ system choice truly mystifies me. It's failing, over and over and over.
