100 % agreed. Its 4 games in. We had the same problem last year. Even Lucien Deblois said on the radio that teams wont find their grove till at least 10 games in.

nobody seems to ******* get this... You can't live and die over an NHL team in a mere 4 games... If the rangers (and any other team, for that matter) are playing like this 10-15 games into the season, then yes we absolutely have an issue...

Fact is (and I think all can concur with me), the pieces are there, there is simply no "spark" yet, but this is not just NYR... This is the entire league right now...

For the first time this season, I'm watching all teams in the league somewhat closely, and even teams that made it to the semi finals last year (Caps) are not clicking either, getting destroyed by petty teams like Winnipeg... Further stanley cup favorites Pittsburgh had their ship sunk by toronto, the "worst team in the league"... More so? The Kings lost their 3rd game, and have not sealed a win this season... Would you hardly call the Kings a bad team? Don't think so, the same "team" they had last season won a stanley cup...

Given the length of the season, my 'cutoff' point insofar as getting worried, as apposed to concerned or disappointed (which I am now) is about the 8 or 9 game mark. If we don't have our chips starting to fall in the right places by then, I'll start taking fevered glances at that Panic Button.

Edit: Just to clarify, we don't need to be dominating by then, we just need to be playing well.

the islanders are ahead of us... for shame!

at least there are 44 games left. a lot of time.

It's not the 1-3 start I'm worried about, it's HOW we've played in those games that has me worried. The superstar line was a good idea to jump start the team but now it's time to even the lines out again. You cannot have Pyatt on the second, and Rupp on the third line. I'll keep saying this as well, Boyle is not a 3rd line center. And for the millionth time I am not bashing him. I like him, he's a team player and fits the identity of the team to a T. But he is what he is, a 4th line center guys. I said this in the other thread, I think Stepan has reached his ceiling. They need to add another d-man and a 3rd line center somewhere down the road if they want to win it all imo.

I feel the same way about how the 3 losses went. In 82 games last season, there were maybe 2 or 3 games where I felt the team laid down without any fight.

Thats already happened 2 or 3 times this season.

Get out of here with that crap man. You're usually a really good poster (besides your Mitchell love ) but your ridiculous Cally hate is just that, ridiculous.

You're blind if you don't think people have been hating on Cally.

Hell, he was great the first game and people STILL hated on him.

I don't see what was so great about him in the first game. I just don't think he's as good as the people on this board think he is. He is a 40-50 pt grinder who had a career year last season. I just feel that his 4m price tag can be used more efficiently like bringing in a RH PMD from FA or a better scorer up front.

Sure he blocks shots, that's fine. Pay me the league min and I'll block shots too.

Hes the captain of this team for Christ's sake. His energy and work ethic is exactly what Tortorella wants this team's identity to be every night.

Theres much more in evaluating a player than looking at point totals and price tags.

4 million for an energy player. :shakehead

An energy player. One of our best defensive forwards and penalty killers. The captain of the team. And a guy who scored 29 goals last year.

Maybe you should sit the next couple of plays out...

OK I'm practically Callahan's lawyer on these boards but let me say, he's playing like ass soup. I can't defend him right now.

That being said, he started just as poorly last season: only 2 goals in his first 7 games, only 3 points in his first 9. He ended up with 17 goals and 19 assists after 48 games.

As happy as I am to watch Nash, we abandoned the youth movement, and this being the Rangers, I wouldn't be surprised to see selling the core bite us in the ass.

We maintained the core.

Kreider, Stepan, Hagelin, Staal, Girardi, McDonagh, Del Zotto.

Not to mention Callahan and Lundqvist. Eventually, the youth movement gets a little older than they were. That's not abandoning it.

LOL, yea trading a Dubinsky and Anisimov in their mid-20's for a FAR superior player is abandoning the youth movement.

I think now that the schedule is normalizing for about the next month+ (no back-to-backs until March 7th) the team will come out much better in each game. I think the Rangers were not capable of playing their best hockey with two back-to-backs in the first week of the season while they were struggling. I think it was the worst thing possible for the team at the time because they clearly needed to work on things in practice and find chemistry. It was important for them to have time to learn from each game and not get back on the ice less than 24 hours later. They also are lacking physical and mental conditioning early in the season. I think we would have beaten Philly if the game was tonight instead of last night.

By the time the next back-to-back games occur the team will have long since found their groove and will have the conditioning they need.
