This season may be rock bottom, but, I’m starting to think next year’s team isn’t going to be much better. Henke’s a year older, the defense because of contracts, doesn’t see much change, or does and now has to live with many more youthful mistakes, and Hayes’ departure creates another hole to fill.
Igor has the potential to carry the team though

They may take steps forward, but not enough to change the outlook of the team that much. Remember how young some of them are.

After this year, he still has two years at $5.7 left. Where is he going?

Funny, but whenever players want to get paid a lot of money, NY is always mentioned as a place they want to play. And yes, while I am not a future prognosticator, Panarin will get $10m. Not sure why he would come to a rebuilding team.

You are right that they will still be very young, and it is difficult to project how much they will improve. But I still think there will be some improvement and with a few additions the team will be a little better. Again, not playoff contenders, but not bottom of the barrel.

Kreider isn't up until the summer of '20, right? A Staal buyout at that time would cost us about 2MM/year for 2 years, so that frees up ~4MM/year to put towards Kreider. Not saying they will do that, but it is a possibility.

That is a lot of cash.

Need to also take into account Girardi's dead space cap hit.

Serious question: Who here was alive to see this?

Technically I was alive to see Bathgate and Howell and Plante, but I may not have because our seats were nosebleed and my father stopped taking me after a couple games because all I did was crane my neck around looking for the ice cream guy and was constantly needing to piss out all the Nedick's orange drinks from before the game.

I certainly didn't go. The Buffalo and Islander games were road games, so I *might* have been able to see them on Channel 9. The Flyer game was a home game, and my folks didn't get cableTV until the 80's.

LMAO at -27.

how many teams realistically have the need and cap space to trade for Hank?

of those, how many have realistic shots at a cup?

I know we talk about how he should accept a trade to a contender, but the list of real contenders with the need and cap space isn't exactly long. There isn't a long list of teams that make sense here.
Exactly - teams that are Cup contenders are usually that way because they have good goalies and talented players. They generally need a second or third liner to shore upa weakness for the playoffs or put them over the top. They don't need an 8.5 million dollar backup unless their starter is injured and they're under the cap. And bad teams don't need a great goalie until they're not so bad.

The hell is going on in this thread the last few responses?

Anyway, I blame @GordonGecko for starting the antijinx thread in case the Rangers go on another winning streak.

I can handle the losing, it’s the not competing that bothers me — especially from veterans who shouldn’t think their spot on the team is nearly as assured as they might think.

Agreed completely. The non-compete is what is worrying and interesting to see how Quinn handles it.

In a way that is why if it were me I'd be sending the youngest youth down, let the Vets take all the blame or fame for whatever happens between now and the deadline.
