I feel like someone needs to be the scapegoat, and the easiest choice is replacing Ruff with Greg Brown. Get a new voice out there coaching the defense, make these guys realize what it takes to coach this layered type of system. Ruff never coached this type of D in Buffalo or Dallas.

This coaching staff has failed on so many levels:

1. Very few players had any increase in their trade value, many had decrease.
2. They so far failed to really develop most of the top prospects. Chytil, Andersson, DeAngelo, even Buchnevich. Howden's production came to a screeching halt.
3. constant scratching of DeAngelo, in favor of washed up McQuaid
4. team is playing even worse defense than before, our PK is one of the worst, (PP% also down from last season)
5. not much improvement in physical play
6. shots per game 2nd lowest in NHL, shots against per game tied for 4th worst

Is Joel Quenneville available or what? He surely won't be available by the time we pull the plug on this failed rookie coach (as well as most of his assistants) experiment.

I was thinking about it, but I didn't wanna be the one to do it. That's cause everyone knows we're bad now, but it's still a board tradition.

I fully expect this thread to be a thing if we're 43-7-2.

New York Rangers is a Franchise and a team under a process and we need to be patient even if end bottom of the table - there are several reasons for that and Henrik cant carry the team all the time. We need to build a new team with new talents, and a new core that is good enough to compete for a cup in (3-5) years and build it in the future drafts. And that mean no easy UFA signing like Panarin, because of age reasons when we are going to compete for the cup next time and we need a top draft picks and elite talented players.

It’s karma for Colorado having the worst post-lockout season of any team (while not trying to be bad) and ending up with the #4 pick

I suppose thats a good way to look at it. But they already had a few top 3 picks (Duchene, Landeskog, MacKinnon) and hit the Rantanen pick out of the park. Plus, Makar is a good prospect still. They had quite a decent amount of good fortune even before the Ottawa trade.

Ruff needs to be fired into the sun. Seen enough of that. If he's there to provide experience and guidance for Quinn, fine. But take the D away from him.

how many teams realistically have the need and cap space to trade for Hank?

of those, how many have realistic shots at a cup?

I know we talk about how he should accept a trade to a contender, but the list of real contenders with the need and cap space isn't exactly long. There isn't a long list of teams that make sense here.

Who decreased? At last check, the youngsters were stepping forward and vets like Zbad, Krieder & Hayes have taken their games to new levels.
2. They so far failed to really develop most of the top prospects. Chytil, Andersson, DeAngelo, even Buchnevich. Howden's production came to a screeching halt.
In Howden's case, what did you expect from a rookie? Chytil is a 19 year old learning the NHL game. Andersson was not overmatched. DeAngelo has played his best hockey ever. Buch is Buch, but also was out for a while with a broken thumb.
3. constant scratching of DeAngelo, in favor of washed up McQuaid
How do you expect to get vets to get their trade values if you do not play them?
4. team is playing even worse defense than before, our PK is one of the worst, (PP% also down from last season)
Have you seen who has been playing defense?
5. not much improvement in physical play
Takes time to change the culture and to bring in the type of players that will play the style you want.

Seriously? This is a real post?

I'm not sure why signing Panarin is a problem. We can get a top 5 pick in this draft and sign him over the summer. Next year the team will likely be better anyway.

1. Next year's team will be better by virtue of what?
2. Panarin will cost $10m. How are you then going to resign Kreider? Look at all of the contracts still on the team and Girardi's dead cap space.
3. Why would Panarin come to a rebuilding team?

Silly me for thinking this team was not bad enough to potentially finish towards the bottom of the league. 2nd half is going to be fun, oh yeah.

1). By virtue of some of the kids starting to put their games together and the likelihood that we start to enter the UFA game. And when I say better, I'm not saying contender...just not a bottom 10 team.
2). Staal is going away, no? I see that $ going to Kreider.
3). I have no idea what he wants. All I know is it seems like we've been reading about him wanting to come here for a while now. If he does I'd try to make it work. Is he really going to get $10m? That's a lot of fishnagles.

They may take steps forward, but not enough to change the outlook of the team that much. Remember how young some of them are.

After this year, he still has two years at $5.7 left. Where is he going?

Funny, but whenever players want to get paid a lot of money, NY is always mentioned as a place they want to play. And yes, while I am not a future prognosticator, Panarin will get $10m. Not sure why he would come to a rebuilding team.

This season may be rock bottom, but, I’m starting to think next year’s team isn’t going to be much better. Henke’s a year older, the defense because of contracts, doesn’t see much change, or does and now has to live with many more youthful mistakes, and Hayes’ departure creates another hole to fill.

You are echoing my thoughts exactly. Best we can home for next year is for the younger guys to take more steps forward, maybe Shesty becomes Henke's understudy. Oh, and bury the likes of Smith in Hartford as you couldn't trade him for a news article right now.
