I honestly think we should trade Hank before the all star break. It’s the right and just thing to do. This team ain’t sniffin the cup before he retires.

It's all up to him because he has a NTC. Don't know why he'd want to play for a bottom feeder tho.

They asked him last year if he wanted out and he said he was all in and wanted to stay here. He's only moved if he asks for a trade.

TFW the tank is real.

I'm sure they will have the same convo with him as we approach the trade deadline. Doubt we will hear about said convo unless he is open to moving.

Hank is going to have to make a life choice soon. His North American roots are in NYC, as is his post-NHL life, most likely. Does he want to move for the next couple years to chase a Cup? He said no last year. It's a harder decision than many fans recognize.

I think the current stretch does highlight the long-game approach the front office is taking.

There’s no knee-jerk reactions when the team is surprisingly winning, nor when it’s getting embarrassed.

We’ve talked about how it was extremely unlikely that the front office changed their mind on anything, and this most recent stretch is exactly why.

There’s much more ebb and flow on the mood, timeline and strategy amongst fans than there is in the front office.

This team will be selling and accumulating.

This little run is a window of life without Hayes. These next 1-2 seasons it will be brutal. Maybe you do sign Hayes and instead dump the overpriced other pieces not carrying their weight? I realize the easy thing is to move Hayes being our best asset, but man do we need to dump Smith, Shattenkirk, McQuaid ASAP. Maybe Staal will be moveable a year from now. Never thought I’d see Zucc play so bad, no doubt will impact his trade value some.

They lost 7-2 with Hayes, him being out is not why they’re getting blown out

Hayes played when they got killed by the Penguins last week...

The last 2 games didn't happen because he didn't play, they happened because the magical pixie dust that is Henrik Lundqvist wore off - He stole 4 points that month (1 against each of Winnipeg and Vegas, 2 against StL.)

Most games since the start of December should have looked like the last few.

The fans see it differently than he does. Thats the thing. Fans think the only thing that matters in his life is winning the Stanley Cup, and while as a professional NHL hockey player this is his ultimate goal, it still isn't more important than uprooting his whole family, kids in school, friends, business interests etc to have a shot at it. Most teams wouldn't want to give up what they would have to to get him, barring a catastrophic injury to a major contending teams goaltender.

There are no guarantees either, and many great teams that are supposed to win, don't.

Hank is one of those guys that has said it time and again, he either wins it here in NY or he doesn't win it at all. Many all-time great players in many sports have never won it all.

You really think after spending 14 years here, he accepts a trade to a godforsaken place like Winnipeg, and wins the cup and he would be happy? Happy for him is winning it in the city he calls home, New York.

Winning a cup in New York. It doesn't get better than that. He wants that, or nothing at all.

Luckily, his career is so esteemed that it won't hurt his legacy. Hockey isn't a sport where one player can win a championship, it's a team game for a reason.

I still hold out hope, as hockey is a funny game, and if you sneak into the playoffs, anything can happen. Hope springs eternal every training camp, so even though this season at the halfway point seems like a complete disaster, I do believe we will be better for it next season, and the season after that.

The future will be better, but we all must be patient.

Him being out isn’t helping and part of the reason they aren’t generating much offenses at all.
They’re still bad with him though, and that’s no reason to keep him around. All the other players you mentioned are going to be gone at some point in the next few seasons too
