It's a 4th round pick. Name me the last player that contributed consistently to an NHL lineup that the flyers have picked in the 4th round. I'll give you a hint. There isn't one.

This trade made the current team worse. I dont care about the 4th.

If youre someone who wants them making the playoffs...you should not be happy.

I actually don't really care one way or another. I think they've been fun to watch this year. And I think DB is trying to keep the locker room positive after trading away a guy who was contributing nicely on the back end.

That said. I guess I forgot Reid Simpson in the 1989 draft. He was a 4th rounder that had a career. He played for basically half the teams in the league. But he played.

The worst argument. They have two contributors on the current roster who were 5th round picks, including the starting goalie who looks quite good. That's without considering the player they acquired is cooked.

We really have to stop looking at draft picks as singular players. They are currency to facilitate trades - both for players and moving around the draft board. A current year's 4th round pick is still pretty valuable around the draft. You or the team you are trading with are drafting a guy with a top 3 round grade.

I think Flyers are done. I do think Danny is too scared to blow it up since they are in a playoff spot. You hear the guys constantly saying “we are better than what people think”. Danny won’t go against that and keep them in the playoff race

That's not really the point. You don't waste assets like this.

Oh and Sam Ersson was a 5th rounder.
They clearly value culture. And like it or not, they clearly believe the culture shifting has a lot to do with the success the team has had this year. There is clearly a buy in from the team for the head coach, and everything I've ever read about EJ is that he's a great human. They have young players that are learning the game. Players don't grow in a vacuum. Having guys around to give different perspective, different ways of viewing the game and how to play it can be valuable in teaching young players how to be successful at the NHL level. That's true not just for professional sports but any job environment.

As an example look at the Flyers success in faceoffs over the last 15-20 years. Richards gave all the credit in the world to Bobby Clarke for pulling him aside and teaching him how to cheat and win on draws. Richards taught Carter, taught Giroux taught Couturier, taught Laughton etc. There is lasting impact on the team from the voices brought into the room both good and bad

Keeping the locker room a happy place is a coaching issue. Players shouldn't be acquired for their social skills
That's like your opinion man, and if a coach believes that a guy like EJ can help him do that who are you to say he's wrong?

Not a great deadline for briere so far, not bad so far, but definitely not great, walker deal A, seeler extension D-, Johnson trade F, Allison trade complete wash, 2 bad moves 1 good....new era of orange looks to have some glaring similarities to the last regime

I love how you say look at the Flyers success in faceoffs over the last 20 years to justify their obsession with "culture." Why not look at their complete lack of success in winning anything over their last 20 years?

I used it as an example of how knowledge in specific aspects of the game can be valuable and useful throughout an organization for a very long time.

Unless you believe career winger Claude Giroux at 20 years old just magically developed into one of the best faceoff centers in the league for the next 15 years on his own with 0 help or input from anyone along the way

So why not find those players in FA, and not waste valuable picks at the deadline...

It's the middle of the season and they just traded a guy that's been in their top 4 the whole season, and placed another top 4 d that they traded for in season on IR...
So your entire point was a strawman? Since neither of those points has anything to do with learning from vets.
