Ersson backed up by Sandstrom isn't a bad tandem. Sandstrom has improved his play as the year has gone on. With Kolosov coming over next season, the Flyers are looking good in the net.
They can afford to trade Hart. It doesn't look like they can afford to extend him on the type of deal that he's going to want as he goes RFA this summer.
Sandstrom isn’t an NHL goalie

So far this year he’s played 7 AHL games with an .875 SV %

Goalies being voodoo and all, it's hard for me to be on board with keeping Hart on the assumption that he will be this good 7 years from now when Michkov is hitting his prime. It's a hard decision to make, but selling him now for assets that are more relevant to that timeline makes sense. We know what he is now and what he is worth now. We do not know that he'll be anything like that far down the road, or even 3 years down the road. Holtby, Mason, and Murray are all examples of really good goalies who suddenly became really not good well before you'd have expected.

How good will Hart be at 32? How many years would he have left of good play as the team's window can be expected to really start? Solid chance that this reasoning should lead to us trading off Ersson soon too.

Will they get a player better than Hart?

I’m inclined to believe no, and the last thing this team needs is more depth pieces. The smart play is to keep both Sam, and Carter. An above average tandem is a solid thing to have.

The wishes of a true rebuild are dead. They are going to try the bullshit approach yet again, so if they do. I think keeping Hart is kind of the smart play - and I wanted him off the team ASAP along with TK.

Hart is the best player on the Flyers imo. You keep that if you aren’t going to be finding similar levels of talent in the draft. Which they won’t picking 16th, and with a crackhead scouting staff.

Will the players they pick with the return be cumulatively more valuable in some way than Hart in 7 years, is the better question. That's what they should be asking. They're probably asking something dumber, like "Can we build another 4th line?"

I don't say "Yes trade him" lightly because he's up there with Couturier for players I've most enjoyed watching overall for the last while. But if they're being realistic, it's a thing they should do. As you have pointed out, they are not likely to be realistic though.

It’s hard to judge what he is when he’s playing at LHV under Lappy. No one looks good there and we know that some of those guys are capable of playing in the show. The Phantoms are a travesty as a development spot.

Fair enough, just can’t bring myself to agree.

If they were being built to be a team like say prime time Chicago, or Tampa. If they had the balls, and brains to try that I’d agree.

But they won’t. They are trying to be a club that wins on other things, to try to overcome a talent deficit. It’s a horsehit approach, same old nonsense - but is what it is.

I think with that plan goaltending is key, and I’m not sold on Sam. Nor am I really on Carter with his health history, but on think the tandem is a factual strength.

They will need great goaltending for the BS plan to even have a chance.

i cant help but feel Errson is bound to fall to earth.

the idea of the Flyers having 2 legit goalies doesnt compute like AT ALL...
In the early days, goaltending was something the Flyers always did right. It was after Hextalls first tenure with the team that goaltending became the question mark

I think the answer to the “should we trade Carter Hart?” question depends entirely on the return.

Should we explore trading Carter? ABSOLUTELY.

If a team like Detroit decides they’re desperate for goaltending and offers you a top prospect (Edvinsson) and a future 1st? We’d be foolish to turn that down.

If the return is just a late first and a mid-round pick? I’d be more inclined to move forward with the Hart/Ersson tandem for now and reevaluate later.

We’re in a really nice spot w/ our goaltending (wait what? Is that allowed for a Flyers team?!?!?). There’s absolutely no reason to make this a binary decision or draw a line in the sand at the deadline. We should have a (high) price in mind, field offers and if that’s met or exceeded, we deal him.

I'd trade Hart because Ersson is showing he can handle the net and this team isn't a 1A/1B Stanley cup team. Hart could net the assets that would allow the Flyers to set themselves up for continued success and increase theirs odds of winning. The big if in this scenario is could this front office pull off that trade, identify the right talent, and develop those players.

The odds they win with the current team are very slim. I'd take the chance to better the odds

Players I’m looking to move and why:
Risto: no explanation needed
Walker: his value will never be higher but I would consider re-signing him if they could move Fisto instead
Seeler: like Walker, his value will never be higher
Atkinson: hell I’d retain half just to get rid of him
Hart: with Ersson looking more and more like a number one and a lot of goal prospects in the pipeline, it’s time to move on from Hart. He’s good, but not great, and I don’t think he’ll be worth his next contract
Staal: I’d give him away for free
Poehling: again, value is at a maximum, so strike while the iron is hot.
Tippett: won’t be worth his next contract and his face is grotesque

Laughton you might as well keep because you already missed the boat on him. Hathaway has little value and you can probably get a bit more at next season’s deadline when he’s on an expiring deal.

Of course, other than Staal, I doubt more than one of these guys gets dealt due to the God Emperor Torts factor. But it’s morning, I’m stoned and I’m just gonna enjoy the dream.

On the Ray and Dregs podcast, Berube said he has been invited to sit with and be around some teams and their coaches. I would bet the Flyers are one of them.

He’s had plenty of chances. He ain’t it.

Real Kyper and Bourne

Forgot to post this from Tues. Jones with Kypreos and Bourne. Heard some of it. Jones not backing away from plan and implied he will trade guys like Walker, Seeler, etc. if they get the right offers. A lot of Jones bluster, but they credit him with pushing Walker's season to prep for trades. A lot of bullshit too, but, hey, that's Jonesy!
