NJ being involved for Laughton means they get bent over and get less than they could to keep him close to home
Friedman said on this mornings pod that the Flyers want to do right by him (if they do trade him) and have him go somewhere he is happy with. Laughton made it clear he doesn’t want be traded.

They’ve wanted a 1st for him and we’re reminded that they said that last year and got it.

Torts is pushing hard to have Risto stay. ‘All of a sudden the Flyers have a lot of D.’

They tried to sign York early this year and it went nowhere.

Like the Rangers are doing, they’re setting up to make a huge acquisition ‘at some point’

Silly question. What has Laughton done to do what right for him? G I get he was the franchise. But Laughton? If they end up trading Laughton to NJ for a 2 & 4 to take care of Laughton, I will not be pleased.

As even Tortorella said last week, "It's a business." When you're traded, you go to where you were sent unless you have a clause in your contract to do otherwise. Laughton has none.

Laughton has been a good soldier and I respect what he's been through on this team, but in no way should the GM be taking less of a payment to trade him somewhere of Laughton's choosing. Sorry bud, this is a a business and you're going to the team that offers the most.

This is reason #317 this team will never pull off a rebuild, they can't even sell off their 30 year old bottom six forward properly.

Laughton has maybe 4 years of hockey left. He should be able to suck it for that long.

Within reason. If Toronto's offering Florida's 2nd, and Vegas is offering their own, and those are the best offers out there, I'd probably take Laughton's preference into account, because Florida and Vegas are within a point of each other, and the difference between what is currently pick #59 and pick #62 is negligible, even if we do end up technically taking the lesser offer.

That said, if the difference is Pick #59 from Toronto and Pick #32 from Winnipeg, then get your toque and heaviest jacket, your ass is going to Manitoba.

I can realistically see this FO approaching their handling of Laughton as proof that they do good by their players, which they will want to feed the narrative of the Flyers as a place players want to come. However, it will reinforce the perspective that they prioritize veteran "good soldier" types.

That’s how I view this saga. I think there’s legitimate knowledge that players don’t view Philly as a destination anymore and their toolbox isn’t as filled as it once was. After all, players are humans, and change can be tough for families. This could be their way to change the narrative — although on-ice production speaks louder league-wide, so hampering asset valuations to “do right” isn’t the way to go, but I get where they’re coming from. This should’ve been done last year. I don’t get how this team backs itself into their own corner and then seems confused how they got there.

They’re not a winning team & haven’t been for a long time now. I think that’s more so the issue of not attracting players from outside the organization. I’m not saying other things don’t matter but I think the thing that matters most to higher end players who come available they’re often looking for teams with proven track record to give them a legit chance to win.

I’m sure the weather & tax benefits help(ed) but nobody really was singing that tune when the two teams in Florida sucked which they have for stretches during the salary cap era.

It's pretty hilarious this organization has been giving out no movement or trade clauses left and right, and the one chip without it (and with demand to boot!) they chose to cripple themselves with "do by him right" voluntarily.

More positive impact of #culture

They aren’t trading the captain of the team. Can’t see it.

Only if they do get the first rounder, or an overpay.
