There was a point made on Briere not wanting to spend 1sts and that being wrong. The full quote was that the Flyers are not the Avs picking late.

Briere understands that we have a non 0 chance at picking high again still and not wanting to give those up. You’d love to have 2 top 10 picks next year.

In today’s Inky, Jackie Spiegal had a pre draft interview with Flahr. In it she asked Flahr how much input Tocchet had with draft selections. He pointedly said, “none”. Now if I was Tocchet, I’d be pissed even if what Flahr said was true. That’s a real slap down. Especially coming from an incompetent bozo.

the Nurse rumors scare me. i want no part of that, even retained.

the only add on D should be a PP QB, and he ain't that.

Pick protections exist for a reason. There’s a non-zero chance any team could pick high. So, the Flyers are hopefully picking top 10? Then why re-sign Dvorak? I’m sure they’ll do more shit this summer. Nothing indicates the Flyers plan to pick top 10. The current iteration of the Flyers are just deeply afraid to make big decisions. I’ll probably be horrified when they do, but that’s a separate matter.

The main point is there’s not a specific time to do anything for a non-tank team. If you’re in the playoff race, is that the time to trade a 1st for Faulk or Schenn? I’d argue there’s never a time to make that trade. If you’re a young team that could pick top 10, is that reason to not acquire a top line player with term?

I don't understand the entire framing of the conversation.

Who cares if you give up a top 10 pick? The thing that matters is whether or not what you get back for it make sense. If a future pick going out ends up 14th or 7th, your opinion shouldn't change.

The Flyers spent a comparable trade package for Quinn Hughes on Nesbitt + Luchanko. They were a Barry Trotz rescue away from adding Martin at 6th overall. How am I supposed to be overly precious (beyond reasonable precaution) about future picks at an unknown spot? One of the contradictory side effects of being a draftnik is the anticipation of how many of these prized prospects will disappoint. Tell me the NHLer, and I’ll tell you my comfort level with a future pick. A number means little by itself.
