Summary of ASF on Zegras.

Flyers have been talking to Anaheim about Zegras since last trade deadline. Asking price was ridiculous.

Briere checked back in this June before draft to see if something made sense, asking price was still too high.

Before trade with Calgary, Briere checked in with the Ducks again and Briere mentioned Farabee, Ducks were interested in Farabee. Ducks weren't comfortable with taking on full Farabee salary, wanted Flyers to eat some salary.

Briere not willing to do that because Zegras hasn't looked good for two years, and Flyers would end up taking MORE salary. Ducks wanted a 1st round pick to take Farabee's full salary.

Flyers didn't want to give up all these assets for a guy that wasn't on top of his game, going on third straight bad year, injury concerns.

Doesn't think anything is left there in terms of making a deal for Zegras. Apparently Ducks wanted York too, but Briere not interested.

I haven't watched enough of Zegras (possibly even zero times) to know either way. I do see his numbers stagnating, and a low number of games played over the past few seasons. He seems kind of like Drysdale - injury problems, development problems.

We do need a 1C. Is he legitimately a 1C, or have the potential to be?

If the answer is yes, then yeah, it's probably a smart gamble. If the answer is no, then maybe circle back later for him as a 2C and when you aren't so weak down the middle.

That's also an INSANE value plunge. You think your players are worth Zegras, a real player with real upside remaining...and then trade them for nothing?

Insane evaluation. But good to know that Torts and company have turned Farabee into a cap dump.

I would have probably traded one of the late 1st round picks straight up for Zegras. Maybe plus a bit mor coming back from Anaheim.

The only way to go from "This one guy is worth Zegras" to "Both these guys aren't worth shit" is if the value returned was irrelevant and the real goal was simply getting rid of two more players the coach hates as a culture move.

I don’t think he’s a 1, but with Michkov - and TK he has a chance to raise his value - and they could trade him if desired.

Hes been overtaken by other centremen in Anaheim - and rightfully so - don’t see that issue here.

The ceiling is higher than Farabee, so I’d have taken a shot on that. Likely never hits it, but they should have been able to increase his value enough to be able to move him at a later date.

Apparently was nixxed cause Anaheim didn't want full contract and was asking for a first. I don't know I guess it makes sense. I think I would have been fine with Edmonton first and farabee no retention for zegras. Flyers are gonna f*** up the draft choice anyway

The other way to get there is if you start from a position that Zegras isn't worth much of a damn, either. We can disagree with that assessment, but it seems like that's the Flyers' position.
