Frost was the cost of dumping Farabee and not having to retain any salary. No one in the league wanted Farabee at his entire contract.


You think Frost and Farabee were valued around the league?

This board is the only place that thinks those two guys had a lot of value.

Don’t buy it. Farabee wanted off the team a while ago, there were rumours aplenty he was unhappy with John. They simply found a team to take the contract - and had to pay to make it happen.

That’s where Frost comes in. Torts would not want him back, so he was the logical “addition” in the trade to ensure Calgary took on Farabee’s deal.

You can debate the genius behind the trade, but common sense that’s why it was made.

The PR about making a big splash is nonsense. They will try, the same as they tried to move up for Demidov, or how Chuck tried.

What you’re looking at is a Bennet overpay at best. No team is trading a 1C that’s actually a good younger player. Even Vancouver made the right call.

They are hoping for an Eichel situation somewhere, won’t happen.

To add, the only offer sheet I’d gamble on would be Johnston.

Have to think Dallas finds a way to make it work, but that’s a player I would part with significant cap space/picks for.

They’ve painted themselves into a corner with having to do something like that. They ignored the important of the draft, yet again. Or drafting high enough, to be more accurate.

Of the two, I strongly believe that Pelletier is being pencilled I to lineups as soon as he is here. Another strong work ethic, meat and potatoes player will be given every chance to carve out his place.

I honestly don't dislike Pelletier in a vacuum. If we traded a mid round pick for him I'd be ok with it. The problem is who went to the Flames in the deal. If the deal was Farabee for Pelletier and a first and then Frost got traded for something like a mid rounder or two I probably wouldn't be that upset. The problem is it was Farabee AND Frost for a throwaway pick, a throwaway player, Pelletier, and a second. I generally don't have a problem trading pretty much anyone on the roster to tank and accumulate assets. Even if the trades aren't great as long as they are forward thinking it really isn't the end of the world. But when the trade hurts short and long term wtf are we doing?

The "have to give away Frost to trade Farabee" reasoning is a "had to pay a 2nd to trade Gostisbehere" level copium.

Then dont trade the f***ing positive contributor at his all time low value, find a way to raise his value and use rentals or overperformers (Laughton? Ristolainen?) who are older to boot to get that cap instead you idiots. Or dont extend a Hathaway day 1.

No. The way to go is to add a (relatively) young 4th highest scorer on the team to get rid of a (relatively) young forward who has shown his abilities in the past but simply doesnt work with the coach (another beautiful similarity there).

The thing is, the Flyers weaponize the media to propagandize everything they do. That's Jones' entire job. Makes it hard to believe this unlikely idea that two proven middle-six players (one on a fair contract given cap future, the other currently dirt cheap for his level of on-ice production at both ends) had simply zero value.

The facts and stats about these players are what they are. Worse players got better returns. Worse contracts got better returns. I think the most likely thing is that Briere kinda f***ing sucks at this and he is a part of a management crew that has spent 7 years bleeding value in 95% of what they do. And so that's what he did again.

Man, this is one of my favorite discussions about how hard it is to play Corner in the NFL.

Hargreaves had everything. He just never adjusted to NFL speed, so he could only play Press Man where he could put his hands on a guy. When he played Off of any kind, he mentally defeated himself before the Snap. Never gave himself a chance to succeed. He knew he didn't have a handle on how the speed changes the game.

You really do need Corners who are psychopaths on some level because everybody gets burnt sometimes. Badly.

I think it's completely wild that a minor joke franchise in a niche league manages to control their local media so completely and influences national media so effortlessly.
