I understand why you look at Primary Points, but I do not understand for the life of me why you wield it like a cudgel against every playmaking Forward archetype without showing any sort of work on or care for what might be happening.

Sounds like we did him a solid by giving him a huge wakeup call.

I agree that what happened during his time in the Flyers org probably made him wake up a bit, and helped him turn the corner.

My issue though is the other side of that coin. The team clearly took a hard line approach with Maroon. Maybe that was a top down strategy, or maybe it was just Gilbert, but the point is they were clearly singling out Maroon. Perhaps if the Flyers took a different approach, Maroon never 'grows up', but by taking the approach they did, it ensured conflict at some point.

2026-2027 has always been their target. We all assumed that following the original Mich timeline, but really it was the Torts timeline.

Their rebuild was never a talent rebuild it was a culture rebuild. Give Torts 4 years to make the Flyers "respected" again. After next season then theyll be the Flyers again and with a lot of cap space, all the free agents will want to sign here again!

That is their delusion. Theyll build a contender level culture and just add an Eichel or Kaprizov in 26 and itll be go time.

He spent two more years in the AHL after leaving the Flyers, he wasn't an instant success.
4 AHL seasons and didn't start until he was 25.

Gilbert handled it badly, but Maroon was a big reason for his own problems.
It was kept quiet, but Maroon's drinking may have played a part.

Greg Gilbert, Phantoms coach: Patrick was a big kid, tough kid, good skill. He had all the tools. Not a bad kid at all. He just didn’t have the commitment to become the player and push himself to become the player he’s turned into now.

Briere won't do anything. Pettersson is a 26-year-old 1st line center who looked like a Top-10 player in the league for a couple of years. He's the perfect, cerebral playmaker for Michkov. But the Flyers will let him go to a team like Ottawa or Buffalo. This is a typical Flyers play... sit and do nothing. Too afraid to take risks, so they pass up whopper trades and draft guys like Bonk and Luchanko over Perreault and Buium because those good ol' Canadian boys are safe players who won't be stars but will be solid.

By any definition of a rebuild, there are no such ones where it is palatable anymore to go 5 years with it. It’s 3 at most. Owners can’t sell rebuilds because they still don’t draw. They’re also cards are on the table. If they’re contenders in 18 months, that means they are full boar for the playoffs next year. Their expectations within the standings now has a floor. Hilferty has said out loud that this is the last year of salary cap turmoil.

They’re also in a division with the Capitals who did a retool the way they always expected Hextall and Fletcher to do it. Not just developing players, but never being awful, and bringing in guys any one of us would’ve screamed about. Including the coach.

With the path he chose... a big swing for a player like EP would make a lot of sense bc it would maximize the roster. Not only adding a great player, but one who could slot everyone correctly and improve their wingers.

Instead, hes acting hes operating as if he sold off all the assets. Really comfusing..
