A 1st and ???

Chariot got a 1st and 4th, Savard got a 1st, 3rd & 4th. Big physical RHDs, Risto is a couple years younger than they were when they were traded as rentals. Flyers would be willing to take 2026 and 2027 picks.

Risto has two more years at $5M, Flyers might take a contract back for the right sweetener, but with the cap rising, some team may want two years of control at that price.
An Edmonton first is basically a second, so IMO you’d need to start at multiple picks and a prospect.

I think it'll end up being more than people expect, if it happens. Probably a 1 and something else smaller, with cap ballast coming back, something cheaper and shorter term than Risto himself.

A hypothetical deal with Edmonton, for example, I could see us agreeing to trade Risto for your #1 in 2026 (or 27, if that's better for the Oilers), a mid-tier prospect (I don't know your prospect pool well enough to know who counts as that level, and who would be insulting to ask for) and anyone you'd want to offload to balance the money up to Risto's full salary but no more. We could probably also include other pieces from our side to get to that point, I think getting a #1 back will be very important for Brière, and he won't move Risto unless he can spin the value as a coup, whether there are poison plls in there or not.
That’s a pretty bad return. Wouldn’t be surprised if we saw that with Briere. He’ll get bent over.

Oiler fan coming in peace(as much as any foregn fan can be)

What is the expected asking price for Rasmus Ristolainen, if the flyers do decide to trade him? Not that I think he will be traded but the talking head are talking like he is under consideration
It would be disservice to McDrai if they bring in someone as inept as Ristolainen. Plus Fisto has his streak of most nhl games played without making it to playoffs once to consider.

That brain dead turnover by Risto at the blue line last night? That’s the ol’ mutt I have to come to know and rely on. Anyone catch whether Torts made it a point to criticize publicly?
I never thought I'd say this, but Risto''s been fine to me.

It's tough to answer because there's a massive discrepancy between what we think Risto is worth versus what actual NHL front offices think.
Risto is the scapegoat for CF's folly. He's improved substantially, but gets no credit here.

One of the weird things about Risto is his career GAR and WAR are substantially positive, but his xGAR and xWAR are substantially negative. Single season divergence is normal, but over a ten year career?

As a Flyer, they're both positive, but WAR 2.5, xWAR 1.4, GAR 15.5, xGAR 9.1.

So Fletcher has made mistakes?

Will the Oilers need max retention?

Here's a good example why few trades will be made before March 1:

"The Stars still haven’t put Tyler Seguin on long-term injured reserve, wanting to wait as long as possible to accrue more cap space. But when they do park his $9.85 million cap hit, they’ll be one of the more dangerous Cup contenders to monitor ahead of the March 7 trade deadline. They are making their calls right now, but the plan is to be patient and wait until after the 4 Nations event to decide where to act. The idea is to see if more injuries change their needs."

Greg Wyshsynski had a stat that the Flyers are third in the league in shot differential in the inner slot, aided by suppression. Highlights that the defense is good but the goaltending is maybe worse than we know.
