Rumor: Things Not Left Unsaid 3 - Flyers Rumors and Media Mentions: Never Ending Circles

Because if you have a Brink, Foerster, Michkov, Farabee, a bad center means you'll stifle their development.

You can see that at LHV, playing with Gardner is not optimal for the young forwards there. They've looked much better with Gaucher and Abols.

This is why you see rebuilding teams bring in veterans on short-term deals, just to give the kids someone to play with who has a clue.
So they kept Laughton because they needed a good center for the kids. Too bad he sucks at center. What was stopping them from doing exactly what you said and signing a vet on a short term deal?

I swear Deady, when they are lowering your casket into the ground, you're going to pop out and say, "What's the rush?"

Maybe because those of us who weren't alive the last time they won a cup would also like to see one in our lifetime. Hell, I'd settle for a team that just seems to have a legitimate chance more often than not.

I haven't even been a fan that long, relatively speaking (2012), and all I've seen is them treading water and repeating the same failed processes over and over.

Question: if the Flyers get a 1st for Laughton and select someone worse (and with years added to the rebuild) than Musty/Cowan/Nadeau — who they passed on before with the STL 1st — does that make it a rousing success? How will we spin it? Not much different than the Edmonton pick with Hutson. They knew the board and made evaluation calls.

Reality is the Flyers won’t get a 2025 1st because no team is selecting 4 in the same class. Even though the Flyers have told us this is the draft class to end all draft classes, despite consensus saying otherwise. Benefit of the doubt: they do seem like the smartest drafting team in the NHL.

Season long sample: wait 3 years

2 week tournament: wait 3 days when it suits my narrative….but also wait 3 years when it doesn’t

I’ve watched plenty of both of them together. It’s not really a coin flip which one is the easier NHL middle 6 projection and higher value prospect. Then again, we overrate our own prospects, right?

I think they hesitated to trade Laughton b/c of the gapping hole at center.

Going into the season, they didn't know what to expect of Couts, Frost or Cates, Poehling was a 4C and nothing at LHV (Rizzo surgery, Abols unknown, Gaucher not on the radar).

Couts is showing his age and the surgeries, still functional but not a top six center anymore.
On the other hand, Frost and Cates may finally have "arrived," we'll see the second half.

Ideally, they can move both Laughton and Risto and get a veteran center back as a salary throw-in to hold the fort until they can develop young centers.
Who cares about a gaping hole at center when you should be rebuilding.
Do you know what Laughton at center is? A gaping f***ing hole.

They should be rebuilding.

The coach focuses on player development and their progress, not wins and losses.

Fire the HC.

They arent rebuilding in the normal sense.

In the ruins of the Fletcher era...we all saw a bleek future bc of the bad contracts and lack of talent...but they saw something different. They saw an organization that had lost its way and got too corporate... which produced an apathetic...wait for it...culture.

The Keith Jones rebuild isnt about rebuilding a roster...its always been about rebuilding the Flyers brand and culture. He ignored the calls of the modern fans and went right for the ass kiss of the "they forgot sniders birthday!" crowd.

In the modern leaderships eyes, they have one objective. Give Torts 4 years flush out all the bad and get the Flyers org their jam back...and then blow their load on free agents theyre convinced will be lining up to sign here after Torts brings the respect back.

They dont care about finding high end talent in the draft or developing it...they just want brainwashed minions who will play way that will make them respectable again.

If you dont fit the mold, you wont play here.

"We want to grow them, but we’re trying to win hockey games, too, as we’re involved in the season.” - John Tortorella in November of '23.

I just don't want to hear that no one was willing to meet their asking price on Laughton. It's his job to either get his asking price or find middle ground.

This deadline feels like it will be a turning point. No Walker trade to distract from other trades. The team hasn't been nearly as good to distract with a quasi-playoff run.

They currently have a 7% chance of making the playoffs. Win against the Ducks tomorrow makes that...8.4%
