Tony probably could have carved out a solid career in the NHL if he wasn’t a grade A asshole. No one wants to deal with that type of shit unless maybe if he was a star player
He wasn't just an asshole, he was uncoachable.
Even Carolina gave up on him.
The physical talent was there, but he simply wouldn't put the work in to master his position.

Torts has something with D-men, not just Werenski in CBJ, but Seth Jones looked far better playing for Torts than he has since. And of course, what we've seen here.

I think if Torts gave a detailed answer, it would go something like this:

"The Michigan really isn't any different than a wrap around shot, there might be a little more space higher up with some goalies who don't hug the post, but also harder to control the puck with this play. And how often are wrap around shots successful? How often do you lose possession? Whereas if you look for a scoring opportunity you might find a teammate with a better shot angle. Or if Michkov can move a few feet he can open up a "bad" angle shot, which he's shown is only a bad angle for mere mortals."

These plays are really plays of opportunity, once in a while you'll catch a goalie being lazy or slow to get over and take him by surprise, but they won't work on a regular basis. But it's not a bad idea for a player as skilled as Michkov (no Brink, you're not elite) to try it simply b/c it puts it in the back of the mind of the goalie and the nearest D-man, which may open up a passing or skating lane if they try to take it away.

I expect Michkov to eventually make it work, and Torts will probably be rolling with laughter.
Anyone else tries it and they'll probably be benched for good reason.

Friedman said today on the pod that Briere is a guy who is looking around wondering what he can do. That would obviously go against what he’s proven to have actually done.

He said at least twice he thinks this (paraphrasing) "shouldn't be part of our game." He thinks it should not be allowed. Only way to stop it would be a rule change, and he'd be in favor.

TORTS may hate wraparounds, I have no idea. I'm 100% sure he wouldn't say they shouldn't be in "our" game.

Happy Briere hasn't done anything.
Some GMs aren't happy unless they're constantly making moves, many of which backfire.
I'd rather he'd be patient and wait for the right deal.

Realistically, few deals will be made between now and March.
I mean the biggest deal was San Jose and Colorado swapping essentially backup goalies?

If you are looking to improve your team for the now or the future...why not make moves now..waiting until a small windows makes little sense

What's the rush, right? Now do Hathaway. How did being patient work out for Chuck on his last, and nationally embarrassing, TDL? Do you think being patient with Laughton is going to work out better than it did for Simmonds? (Not that they are ever trading Scoot)

You can't just "make a deal." You need two to tango.
The reason most deals happen the week before the TDL
1) GMs want to be sure their team is still in the PO hunt before buying
2) GMs stockpile cap room to use at the TDL to add players

The fact this happens every year suggests it's hard to find buyers until then.
