Given the choice between playing someone who is underperforming, but could theoretically work their way out of a slump, or playing someone who is reaching peak performance, with a peak a millimeter off the ground, this team will always fetishize the hard-working dipshit with no talent over the guy who could, if properly engaged, be a positive asset.

Tippett brings it every night, sometimes for the wrong jersey, but like TK, you have to accept that as part of the package. He's 3rd among forwards in xGF%.
He's excelled the last few games since he's been with Couts and TK.

Started last season for two games and then was scratched 10 times between October 17 and January 4th.

That's a strange version of being given "every chance to succeed".

I think it's more just chemistry, it's not like Frost played badly with Tippett and TK last season, but for some reason they clicked with Couts the last few games.

I don't think Torts is finished mixing and matching:
Tippett - Couts - TK

Frost/Cates/Laughton at center
Michkov/Farabee/Brink/Foerster at forward

??? - Poehling - Hathaway
Richard/Lycksell and maybe Tuomaala later in the season

Not particularly, I think he's about average, but the gulf between the average player and Couturier is pretty large.

I think Tippett's dumb as a box of rocks (at least on the ice, he could be a rocket scientist off the ice for all I know), and needs all the help from his linemates he can get to put himself in the right position to capitalize.

TPTB allowed AV to trash out Gostisbehere and Jake. Now Torts wrecks Frost.
It looks like a MO for the Flyers is to allow the HC to drive players off of the roster instead of demanding that the HC bring the most out of a player. Winning franchises do not allow the HC this much latitude with roster make up. Only losers do that.

Trashing players is a core team value stemming from Clarke.

Not true. A lot of 2nd liners are consistent, but consistently not as good as first liners.
Brayden Schenn has been pretty consistent throughout his career, for example.

I don't know either, but it's a safe bet it'll be the kind of return where we look back a year or two later and regret that it happened. That's the best case scenario.

It's more likely we regret it instantly.

Trading Frost is the best move for Frost. He'll benefit significantly from it.

And you know, why wouldn't you want a Center who averages .5 a game before he enters his prime when your centers are Couts, Cates, Laughton, Poehling.
