G-Kaleta, Ott, every dman but Myers(ik he scored), Miller

B-we didnt deserve to win off a lucky bounce and a goal that Tampa gave away to a dman.
-Myers in his own end
-Porter's ice-time though...we won so maybe Im wrong?
-Hecht as us'
-Gerbe as us'
-lack of physicality and fighting...when we aren't scoring I need to be amused lol

U-stamkos really really wanting that one timer
-mostly our whole team lol
lack pf physicality as already mentioned
-game calling and southern camera views

p.s lets keep blaming Grigs for his lack of scoring with Jochen(I ride the boards like Im stafford yet when I touch the puck I sling 90 foot backhanders)-Hecht

as well as

Nathan(Im 1/2 foot shorter Hecht)-Gerbe

and Patrick(spark of the team-only concerned with lining people up)-Kaleta

sorry did I forget ellis, scoot, cody?? Lets blame the kid for the fact we have no depth and wont break up VHP...

Not sure why Ott is in the good column here. He totally mis-played the first goal against and had a couple of other stupid plays and missed opportunities. I'll give him credit for the successful PK and call it a wash.

Honestly, though, Rayzor was right about Tampa's PP being predictable and easy for Miller to track. Granted, some of that was due to good pressure by the PK-ers, but some of it was just an unimaginative PP -- illustrated most clearly during the inept 5 v 3 situation.

Vanek and Cody looked good, despite CoHo's missed chances.

Pardy looked good out there. I hope they keep him in the lineup for the near future.

Myers continues to make me shake my head in the D zone. He really needs to go back to basics. I'm really surprised that Jeep and Teppo can't teach him how to play simple, positional defense. Those guys were as steady and reliable as they come. I wonder what's going on with him?

Well, if anyone wants to soak the win in again, it's replaying on TWC ... MSG right now. :thumbu:

I was kind of hoping maybe to catch a replay of it right now as I missed it last night but all I have on my TWC is a frozen picture of a tiger's face :shakehead :help:

Hardly. The PK had been below average through 18 games.

I assume you're trying to spin an inference that the PK was below average because of Hecht. Yet, as I stated earlier, of the regular penalty-killing forwards, only Kaleta had a better GA/60 at 4-on-5. That's not an argument. That's an objective fact. You try to poke holes in that because it doesn't jibe with your belief that Hecht has no usefulness to this team. Meanwhile, guys like Pominville and Hodgson get lit up like a Christmas tree on the PK, and you're only too happy to see them continue to be sent out there. (Nevermind the fact that we often waste a Vanek shift after a PK because he's not out there with Hodgson-Poms because they have to rest after the PK.)

Hecht's presence on this team, for some, hinged on his "elite" penalty killing ability. The new coach doesn't use him once, as the Sabres blank the 7th best powerplay in the league 6 times.

Again, sample size: 1. If we give up a goal or two on the PK to Florida on Thursday night, and Hecht doesn't play the PK, are people correct to assert that the PK desperately missed Hecht?

I love how you keep citing TB's PP rank. I'm sure the fact that their division rivals are ranked 23rd (WSH), 25th (CAR), 29th (FLA), and 30th (WPG) on the PK has little to do with their high PP rank? Hecht played the PK against NYI (omg, 6th ranked!) and the team didn't surrender a goal until Ott-Stafford were on the ice in the final minute for a meaningless goal. Frankly, I'm shocked you've yet to attribute that PPGA to Hecht having played on the PK earlier in the game.

Also, if Stamkos converts a shot that almost everyone would agree he usually cashes, nobody, including you, is talking about the "great PK" tonight. Fortunately--for the Sabres, for Kevin Porter who was watching helplessly, and for you to come in here and spin this opportunistic garbage--he did miss.

They have plenty of penalty killers without Hecht. Even more now, with Porter here.

Re-signing Hecht was wrong.

Sure, if you like the poor performance that Poms and Hodgson have exhibited thus far on the PK. But according to objective numbers, Kaleta is the only forward who seems to be on the ice for fewer goals than Hecht. He should be utilized there.

Hecht has also done a good job of goal prevention at ES. He's also paid $1m and is a 4th liner. Yet he is the problem? Your campaign is absurd.

For one night I will rest easy. First good nights sleep in a while.
Haven't gotten to sleep yet. Finished the game about an hour ago. Going to shut down now until ten.

Scoot. Ahhhhh scoot scoot muh****aaaa

Stop implying that Grigs is hindered by linemates. He looks tentative and slow, and surely has yet to use his size as an asset.

Good:

- Pardy
- Miller, particularly on the PK
- CoHo grows on me by the game. I also repeatedly forget just how young he is, and how that lends itself to room for growth from the defensive side of things.
- a low scoring win over a high scoring opponent lends credence to the notion of a well played game defensively
- Ott hits everything in sight, and unlike Kaleta, doesn't frequently take himself out of the play to do so

Bad:

- the usuals, Stafford and Folignowhere to be found

Ugly:

- take away Myers' goal, scored out of sheer luck that he coasted into his spot at the point in the o zone at the right time with the puck accidentally finding him, and the boy was a downright liability. Confidence is shot, feet aren't moving, decision making is awful, and he regresses by the period. Seeing him in anyone's "G" column scares me

- Folignowhere needs to realize he's NOT A ****ING DANGLER. GET THIS GONGSHOW "WHEEL SNIPE PARTY 5ched DANGLEFEST" **** out of here. NORTH/SOUTH with your will being imposed physically. what the **** is going on with him?

This is pretty much all a joke, right?

Myers in the good column? Did you watch the game? The goal was pretty, but he was poor in the defensive end, which is what he's really paid to do...

Not sure the reasoning behind complaining about Enroth not playing.

Vanek has two assists.

So how do we fix Foligno?

I'd send him to Rochester for a few games. He's scoring less at ES than Jochen Hecht, FFS. He's not PK'ing. He adds nothing to the PP. And worse yet, he's forgotten how to play the game that made him such a success in the second half last year, and the early portion of this year. There used to be a time where a second-year, waiver-exempt player would get sent to the AHL for this crap. Apparently, those days are gone.

I rather lose every game and get rid of the loser GM, loser coach, and loser players.

A strong finish is the last thing this franchise needs.

G:
- PK on the PK (as always, damn that dude loves laying down in front of shots)
- Miller
- Vanek and Hodgson. Pominville was just OK, nice pass springing CoHo on the breakaway in the 3rd though. Starting to think Ruff was onto something last year with VH separated from P. VH can generate offense without him, and Pommer might be able to ignite another line.
- Sekera
- Regehr. I liked his game tonight. The play didn't always die on his stick in the offensive zone, and I think he was great defensively. Had some timely blocks/deflections.
- Ron Rolston's 1st NHL win!

B:
- I want the Foligno from last year back. Where's he at?
- Myers still struggling in his own end. Had some nice plays, had some terrible ones, and took some real dumb penalties.
- Gerbe. Appreciate the hustle, but when you win the puck and then promptly pass it to...no one and it ends up just going back the other way, it kinda defeats the point.
- Our PP.

U:
- Ruining our draft position???

Nope. Florida and Washington both won, as well. Still sitting pretty in 15th in the East, and 29th in the league.

I agree but it's a completely separate point from what you were making. Hecht IS a great PKer, but it's all he offers the team at thsi point.

Stamkos is just so great to watch

B: Penalty after penalty. It's like they wanted to lose.

U: Watching Stamkos skate through us, for the first time I felt myself go into not winnin for McKinnon mode. Even after this win, I'm more convinced than ever that this team needs a talent overhaul.

Send Grigs down for a memorial cup run and then let him come back up. He's not doing anything now and it would be good for him to face some competition he can play against, and get some confidence back.

They clearly won because I've been stuck at work. This is the first game I haven't watched in quite some time.

I'll have to make sure to keep watching if we want a high draft pick. It's a thankless job...

Good to see Vanek with a multi-point game. I know it doesnt mean much next to team success, but its nice to see him at or near the scoring lead.

Sabres are 3-0 this season in games I haven't watched at all (2nd Boston game, @ NYI, and this one). Lol

Adam Pardy is another example of Ruff never giving any outsiders a chance... He looks like he belongs in the NHL.

Like Kotalik, Pardy was a throw in on a trade. I believe the plan from the time of the trade was that they would not make the roster.

Foligno is going through rookie growing pains. He still hits. IMO he started to dangle more, unfortunately, because Dman are playing him to the boards. He tried a power move last night, got interfered with by the back checker, then got rubbed out by the Dman. He's not coming with enough speed to make the dangle work. By the time he makes a move, the back checker is on him.

He is a concern but not a top concern with stafford, Myers, and enroth on this team...
