Post-Game Talk: They all look so happy to be here

Othmann looks like he was bit by a walker and is in the process of turning.

THIS JUST IN:

Othmann released from his contract.

"Unfortunately, Brennan Othmann has turned," Chris Drury, Rangers GM, said. "What's left of his motor skills isn't suitable for our needs, and he poses a direct threat to the other players. So we had to release him. He was a good player, and I wish him the best in his next chapter."

The volume around JTM is increasing but remember his first few games when he arrived, he was a revelation. Then the malaise that permeates this organization took over. I'm not gonna rush to judgment on him yet. He's also one guy. Even McDavid is one guy. He'd have multiple Cups if it was all about one elite guy.
Either the malaise or the fact that he was shooting >30%

I'm not spending a single dollar on this franchise for now until they show they're committed to fielding a winning product and building towards a championship.

This group doesn't deserve your hard earned money. The NCAA playoffs are in full swing. Lots of hockey to be watched

I think what we're seeing is one of the main reasons the 'Nucks were eager to be done with him (that and his mouth).

Now that the season is actually over, who are we looking at to replace Lavi when he's fired? I wonder who the legitimate candidates will be.
If only we had a great coach in the system that was ready to take the head coaching job...oh wait

Literally every play but Will Cuylle has regressed to the point of needing another rebuild. Panarin has been carrying this team for too long and he's now older and slower. Fox is a shell of himself now, Kreider same. Laf is a BUST. We have no good defensive system or individual Defensemen anymore. Miller is a head case and a liability. Trocheck can't play hockey anymore.

I imagine it takes a while to get acclimated with a new team so I'm hoping JTM ends up taking a step forward next year sort of like what we saw with Trocheck in his second year.

A rising tide raises all ships and a couple bad apples bruise the whole bushel

The aggregate team performance is impacting the output and game-to-game morale of players like Fox, JT Miller, Trocheck, who are not really part of the problem.

It's Laf, Kreider, Mika, (Lindgren, Trouba), and K'Andre Miller who have been the real regression bugaboos.

Correctly identifying who is who is one of the tests of a good GM. I have very little confidence in Drury to be able to select the bad apples

Was literally reading a post at the same time that said Panarin isn't the problem here, he's the only one that creates offense. Fitting display of just how big a mess the team and the perception of the team both are...
If the rotten core has any chance of changing the way they play (i don't think so), the next coach has to be a Torts type that will hold them accountable for the lazy easy west BS regardless of vet status. I think, however, gutting this core is the way to go.

The danger with Panarin coming back next year is he's going to be contract-year jacked. Then if the Rangers re-sign him he will go back to what we don't need.

Kreider's goal was his 19th of the season. Kind of amazing (even with my Kreider colored glasses on) to think that even in a season that has been his worst as a Ranger, he is still third in goals at the moment. He has five more than Mika. Five more than Lafreniere. And in 14 less games.

Rationalize it all how you want to shit on him. But I like to think that it says a lot about of some of the other top guys on the team.
Kreider's lack of assists is a big indicator of how many goals scored he participated in. Of course assists is not a perfect indicator (alternatively simply being on the ice is even less of an indicator IMO) but if you starting point is 35 goals and maybe 25-35 assist Kreider had a huge drop from his norm over the last few seasons (and I'm not any players' hater).

My biggest disappointment for the season is Lafreniere by a big margin. Zibanejad, Trocheck and Kreider (and probably Miller on defense) are closely bunched together as the next group. Then it's Fox, Panarin and Shesterkin...

You hear that, Dolan??????

Panarin has been here for 6 years. I don't think there's a danger of him "fooling" anyone with his numbers whether it's 90 points or 120. It will ultimately come down to what management wants to do and if they come to the common ground on years and AAV if there's a mutual interest.

P.S. For whatever it's worth if PP was running as effectively as in the past Panarin would again be in the 100 points territory.
