Therrien on Subban

I think that it's pretty obvious Subban isn't the type of buddy Therrien would hang with. He does seem to enjoy bashing him. You just hope that it will never go as far as not using him wisely on the ice. I guess you can hate him off it, but you have to love him on it.

It's a tightrope for Therrien . A player like Subban has the power to be a coach killer. Once Subban gets his big 8 year security deal the power balance shifts to PK

Bashing?:shakehead

Thats too much hyperbole on your part.

The proper word would be coaching. Subban still has his flaws and still makes mistakes. He is not beyond being given advice and criticisms in order to improve on his flaws.

Subban's ego and psyche is able to take the coaching that Therrien is giving him. Too many people are portraying Subban as an overly-sensitive shrinking violet who will suddenly forget how to play hockey and take out his revenge on a man who is trying to improve his game.

He's a grown man playing a professional sport, not some spoiled middle school brat.

Surely one of the reasons why he shouts so much at him....he does it while he can...;)

Yes, so "coaching" only means yelling and diminishing him? There are other ways you know....I have no problem at giving crap when needed. It can't be needed all the time. On 24CH, Subban gets crap with Gorges, then he has the humility enough to stick around and ask a question about his passes....did that really deserved a MOVE YOUR ****ING FEET, YOU ARE NOT READY? I mean, he's not challenging you or anything. I have nothing against keeping Subban be humble. Nothing. When it's really about that. Not sure the segment we saw on 24CH was a sign of him not having humility.

And you're talking to me about hyperbole? How about "spoiled middle school brat"????

I used spoiled middle school brat because sports players at that age have parents criticizing coaches for being too hard on their little boy.

Which is what I am seeing in this thread.

Yep. And TONS of times they are right 'cause those great coaches see themselves in the NHL or whatever highest league of their sport and feel the obligation to get their frustration out on kids that might not deserve it everytime.

Therrien is in the highest league....he could do what he wants. Pretty sure that nowadays, with that attitude, if you don't have the greatest of team with you, you won't stick around a whole lot but that's his problem.

Dont get me wrong. Therrien has a lot of flaws and issues.

Coaching Subban is not one of them. Its just that the Subban fans are upset that Subban, the Norris winner, does make mistakes and needs a little instruction from Therrien from time to time.

We're talking about Michel Therrien, same guy that cost us in the playoffs by sending the wrong guy to take the faceoff his 1st time around and yeah Michel Therrien, the guy that didn't win it with a stacked team annddddddd had the team going downhill before he got fired.

Habs will never win the cup with Therrien. The guy takes a lot of funny decisions and it will come to bite him in the ass because he simply is not that good of a coach and there will always be someone that will end up out coaching him.

Nobody is upset about that man. Maybe there's a couple of really sensitive fans but that isn't the norm and focusing on them is useless.
What most people are saying is that Therrien seems to go overboard with the hard-ass-tough-love approach.
As Whitesnake said, was it necessary to speak to PK that way after he asked a question? I mean, Therrien wanted PK to move his feet and get into the game more right? Well, why couldn't he acknowledge that he did after the CGY game instead of blaming the loss on him (seeing how PK blamed the loss on himself, and Therrien agreed)? Why does he single out PK on the CLB goal when the biggest mistake was done by Eller?
The more he keeps this up and the more it'll be interpreted as a vendetta. I mean, maybe behind the doors, he gives PK a ton of credit, who knows, but even if he does that's not what we're seeing, not even on 24CH. So maybe a little props in the media from time to time would change the perspective some have.

Like WS, I have no issues with the hard ass approach, when it's warranted, and if we gather up everything Therrien has said about PK thus far that we know off, you'd imagine PK has been struggling quite a bit, which we all know is far from the truth.

I think deep down both Therrien and Bergevin understand that that is a real possibility. The downside is maybe they decide to trade him because sometimes the best solution to a problem is to deal with it in a permanent way.

If the power shifts to Subban, I'd think management would be looking to trade him rather then sucking on his toes, that's my take on it anyways. Look at what happened to Cammalleri, he chose to open his mouth once and *boom*, no third period for you!

So glad there wasn't discussion forums in the 70s. So many of you would be sending death letters to Bowman.

funny thing is that he had to adapt in the 90's

he wasn't coaching the same

It would've been funny to see him try his antics with Mario Lemieux :D

Michel Therrien keeps showing his ignorance and that's why he will get canned before all the core players fully develop.

SMH at having Bournival on a top line and having Bourque stay on the 3rd.

hard to blame a forward cause he doesnt know how to play D.

sure, Eller made a mistake... but it's not like he's used to that position you know...

more likely scenario : he'll get canned like most coaches after 3 or 4 years, happen to all of them not named Babcock or Trotz.

If it's a repeat of the Penguins' scenario (Habs lose in the SCF one year, MT fired during the following season, team wins the Cup with the new coach), I'm more than OK with that

Although I'd rather win it the first time around!

And where is Gauthier now? A trading of a Norris trophy winner is **** that Montreal fans will not eat. The President is part of the ownership group , he'll step in or worse if his management team recommends a trade of Subban. Everyone involved is old enough to remember the Chelios disaster, and Subban > Chelios at a time Montreal is preaching their seriousness about winning.

MB would have to have an amazing offer on the table for Molson to give his O.K.

I believe he works for the reigning cup champs. ;)

Yes, and this will not happen if the coach is criticizing his player outside the locker room.

If this organization has truly shed it's outdated patriarchal ways and is truly serious about winning, it will begin recognizing his leadership , preferably formally in the Captaincy, but more importantly by building his brand publicly and managing his personality privately.

huh... the kid s a great talent, showing lots of heart and al' but that doesnt make him or anyone else a leader. Him having leadership is exxagerated a lot, there's nothing that shows that so far, he may have it in him... but all the leadership talk only comes up cause he has a flashy personnality

privacy is not going to happen in Montreal, wether it's trough 24CH or the medias looking for controversy... lots of stull will always come out in the medias.
