There is only so much cap hit and Toronto doesn't need more scoring

I would much rather keep Kerfoot on the team. Trade for Foligno/Granlund/Iafallo (retained) and send Thornton + picks back the other way. Kerfoot is actually a decent player.

Thornton has a no move he isn’t going anywhere. Kerfoot is a decent player but he’s upgradable. He should be moved if cap needs to go the other way. We have so many players like him coming up. Adam Brooks and Robertson can both play the wing and center and bring exactly what he can bring

100% disagree. Taylor Hall would be a top 1-6 forward on this team most nights, if you can get that for a 1st round pick imo you do it. Nobody wins a cup while being conservative and planning for the future.
It was lack of top 6 scoring at 5v5 that sunk us last year, not needing a better 3rd line center or more checkers. Pitt's last 2 cup winning seasons would be absolute disasters if you looked at their personnel moves not knowing they won the cup.

Any 3C we get is going to be a marginal upgrade compared to Kerfoot at best. I really don’t get the obsession with a 3C.

I get that some fans want that big shutdown third line centre, but like you said how many on the trade market are actual upgrades?

I think the issue is only one line has clicked consistently this season. It's more about having the right mix of players, rather than the best mix of players. If Hall is cheap enough that you'd be stupid not to trade for him, sure, get him. But he doesn't provide anything we don't already have and is simply a luxury addition, not a need.

The Edmonton game highlighted the incredible slowness of Joe Thornton. You have to think just having another speedy player with young legs would have energized the Leafs in that role far more than the savvy and size Jumbo brings. It's not like he was necessarily getting left behind but sometimes you just need the team to be able to fly and that wasn't happening.

He's got a role, just not here on the top line.

He could potentially fit with JT and Nylander, but he forces Marner into a shooting role with Matthews downlow/digging. Maybe something with Mik and Kerfoot/Engvall on a fourth line

How can you say that when he has scored 2 freaking goals all year? Vesey had 5 in less games and we waived him.

I'm skeptical that Taylor Hall could jump onto a moving train like a Stanley Cup contender and thrive. He hasn't had much team success ever so I don't know if he has a foundation of "championship" habits and the three teams he's been on the past two years have struggled to get things going with him in a lead role. I guess you could say he could be our Phil Kessel, but I'm not super enthusiastic about the prospects of him coming here and being the missing piece. Might be worthwhile to bring in next offseason as a reclamation though.

Thornton is being used too much, he shouldn't be expected to play 15 minutes a game. Use him for 7 0r 8 minutes in key situations. The guy is playing for min pay for goodness sake. Lets not expect 6 million a year toi and performance.

I find it kind of strange how they use Spezza and Thornton so differently. Getting so much value from Spezza in a limited role and how they're getting much less out of Thornton as the season goes on but they keep giving him heavier minutes.

Pitts is a good example when thinking what Kessel did for them. I think it's evident that this would be the best team Hall has ever played on (not alot of competition there.) Even if he's not as good as a few years ago he's one more scoring threat come playoffs.

He's also not being asked to be the best (or second best) player every night. Only 4th or 5th best. I think he would take that opportunity and run.

Who knows what is said between coach and player. Maybe the coach asks how you feeling Joe? Maybe Thornton is the type of guy that responds with I feel good no matter how tired he is. It's up to Keefe to rein that enthusiasm in.

When the stakes are high and games mean something more, I believe everyone on this team will step it up.

I still feel Dubas should pick up 2 pieces. That would put us over the top, imo. A two-way top6 LW, and a TWD. Don't know if both are attainable.

Can't judge true Leafs team on these games they often don't get up for.

I judge them on how they play when they're all going, and I've seen it often this year against a few teams like Winnipeg & Edmonton. Lot of good signs.

When they wanna play they often show it in just 7-10 mins of play. Scary shit bro.

It'll be an exciting finish here, and then the playoffs will be something else man. So excited.

Hey Kessel scored 25 in his last year with us, he then scored 26 with Pitt the next year. Lets compare, Hall has redirected in 2 goals for a total of 2 scored so far, how many do you think he can get over here..?

Thing is the numbers say that Joe has been quite excellent defensively, even up against top competition.

We have decent scoring from our forwards, but only 8 total from our D. The trade off is we are better defensively but it would be nice to see the D score a few more. Maybe a scoring 2 way D pickup as an up grade in Dermott. I wouldn’t sacrifice our defensive game though. A depth forward with grit or even a true #3 centre would be nice to get.

Spezza is one of our top 5v5 point producers. Why not give him a try on the top 6? I don’t understand why Keefe hasn’t even tried it, yet has let Thornton try it for months.
