There is nothing wrong with Matthews, Marner, Nylander, Tavares.

It's funny, too, to add some context for the one point that Marner and Matthews got.

Marner got his "point" when a Panther player gave the puck away and put it right on Marner's tape. Marner immediately pushed the puck forward to Matthews who then took a low-event shot along the ice that somehow got through the legs of Boborovsky.

They all look the same on paper, but Marner pretty much did nothing and I really don't think the shot was what Matthews was looking for, but it worked.
Not that it matters much, but Marner forced that turnover and made the simple play to Matthews. Sure Bob wants it back, but a point is a point, and I find dissecting or discounting goals like this kind of strange. I'm NOT saying either of them are the answer in TOR, but points are points.

I appreciate you adding more to the conversation once you realized your argument was wrong and dumb.

I don't know if people on this board are just so pathetic in real life that they think everyone is as emotionally attached to hockey as them or what, but sports are a form of entertainment for most.

I didn't play on the team, I didn't lose, I don't really care, it is fun to have some banter and cheer for a team while watching, but it is not that big of a deal for most.

You have nearly 10,000 posts and about 9800 of them are you endlessly defending a handful of Maple Leafs (players and brass) like they were your big brother, but we're supposed to believe that you "don't really care?"

I would be hard pressed to find another poster on the Maple Leafs board that cares more than you.

Isn't part of the problem that the Core are all forwards and there's not one defenceman or goalie considered "Core"?

Like, I know it's not the current reality but I would just think that it's about balance. I'm not even saying that for example, Tanev is no good or Woll is terribad - I'm saying there's no balance in how Toronto presents its ambitions with regards to their roster.

I'm sure that Marner will do good somewhere, but not in Toronto.
I think so too, he needs to go somewhere with an established leadership group though. Going to a place like Chicago will not be good for him. Carolina would be great imo.

we have this conversation EVERY YEAR!!!!!

there is 1000% something wrong with them and 10 years of playoffs failure proves it.

also a major lack of accountability, too many passengers? what you mean like yourself?
what blows my mind is they all blame Marner as the scapegoat but he has been more effective than Matthews ever has in the playoffs he averages 60 assists over a 82 game playoff prorated It's Matthews who is shutdown and his whole worth is putting puck in the net , and the Leaf fans think dropping their 100 point best playmaker is going to solve their problems . love to see it

I dont even care anymore, its been next to 10 years. rebuild, retool, run it back I honestly do not care at all anymore.

guess what though.... it doesn't work here. so what do you suggest? just run it back over and over and over again? don't put blame on the fans, we have no control over what the team does.

all I know is the product on the ice isn't good enough when it matters and this isn't just some small sample size. and for the price of the tickets fans have all the right in the world to express their displeasure to what they are seeing.

would be one thing if they actually tried but nope can't do that. get taken out embarrassingly, this also happened not once but twice at home

They will all win Cups in their early 30s with their new teams, just like Buffalo got to see O'Reilly, Eichel and Reinhart all win Cups in their late 20s with new teams. Sometimes the whole is less than the sum of their parts.

I think they look more like Thornton/Huburdeau tbh.

Marner isn't going to a contender and if Matthews were traded he wouldn't be going to a contender either.

Eichel/Kessel/O'Reilly/Reinhart were not scarred by a decade+ of playoff failure where they individually came up short. In their minds, they were still fresh.

Marner (and if Matthews is traded) would be going to a situation where they would STILL have to be the guy/best player. They had nearly 10 cracks at it and never got it done.

The Core 4 is like Buffalo. The players will have more success once they're on another team.
