Over an 82 game season they would win a game or two, maybe even 5-10. But every win would be a complete fluke, like the other team's goalie had an off-night, or they scored on every chance they had and just dumped the puck out the rest of the game.

Edit: 10 would really be pushing it too. I think they win 6 tops.

I think that with MacKinnon, Drouin, Horvat, Bennett, and Ekblad, they could definitely beat Edmonton or Buffalo in one game. Probably not much of a chance to beat these not-so-good teams either, but of course, if any junior team can get a bit close to the NHL level it's only Canada. Not close actually, but they are they would give that one nhl team the toughest time out of all countries, that's for sure.

I was wondering when this thread was going to pop this year...

They wouldn't stand a chance. Wait 5 years and then come back and check how many players on the Canadian roster (or the roster of the team that eventually wins the tournament) have actually established themselves as everyday NHL players... You will probably end up being kind of shocked.

Only 8 players on the winning US roster from 5 years ago have to this point established themselves as NHL regulars. At least a couple more could end up having decent NHL careers but we are still talking about guys who are pushing 25 and now playing in their 6th or 7th post draft season so the clock is definitely ticking.

The '05 Canadian junior team is considered by many to be the best ever, but even that roster had 10 guys on it who would never establish any kind of lengthy career in the NHL.

That Canadian team is unbelievable

Except that the NHL is a vastly better league. I'd be highly surprised if they won more than two matches.

And the U20 Canadian team is vastly better than the Slovak u20 team and I mean the U20 team that acually plays in the Slovak league without pretty much all of the top players from the WJC.

While that Slovak U20 team in the league plays as has been described in the post you have answered to, last year the actual Slovak WJC team (not sure whether there were any players missing) played two games against Slovak league teams pre-tourney with much better results:

Dukla Trenčín - Slovakia U20 3:8 (2:3, 1:2, 0:3)
SVK U20 goals: 5. Mlynčár (Černák), 14. Kolena (Reway), 17. Daňo (Cehlárik), 22. Daňo (Lunter, Cehlárik), 38. Réway (Luža, Kolena), 46. Cehlárik (Lunter, Daňo), 54. Gríger (Reway), 57. Rusina (Kolena, Reway)

Å HK 37 PieÅ¡ťany - Slovakia U20 2:6 (0:1, 2:2, 0:3)
SVK goals: Rehák (Luža), Cehlárik (Daňo), Tibenský (Å imun, Horanský (Luža), Rehák (Daňo), Gríger (Mlynčár)

They were just exhibition games though of course.

World Juniors vs NHL Hockey

I would like to open up a discussion about Team Canada this years team playing a last place NHL team hat the outcome would be? my opinion our Team Canada would hammer a last place NHL team even the Toronto Maple Leafs it would be interesting give your ideas and opinions

Well, to start, the last-placed team in the NHL right now is the Edmonton Oilers. The Oilers feature three first-overall players in addition to World Junior Championship star Jordan Eberle, significant former World Junior players Benoit Pouliot, Anton Lander, and many players who were very good at the junior level and succeeded at all levels they played in before they reached the NHL. They've all been developed for several years.

Factor in years of coaching and extra development, in addition to greater physical maturity. World Junior hockey in general is sloppy and slow compared to hockey at the NHL level. Many of the players on the World Junior team we think of as currently being defensive liabilities if they were to play right now at the NHL level. Puck movement at the NHL level is so much faster, and players regardless of their role can make crisp passes and execute effective plays.

Now ask yourself how many players on this year's World Junior team can crack an NHL roster today. Max Domi, the tournament's best forward, failed to make this year's Arizona Coyotes roster. Curtis Lazar has 7 points in 27 games for the Ottawa Senators this year. No NHL team would ask Zach Fucale right now to play in the NHL. Darnell Nurse, one of Team Canada's best defenseman this year, could not even play on this year's Edmonton Oilers. Current Canucks fourth-line center Bo Horvat would have been one of Team Canada's top forwards had he been loaned.

The NHL team wins. The years of development, experience and maturity make an enormous difference. The World Junior team can definitely challenge one NHL team's prospect lineup (for example, at the Penticton Young Stars Tournament); they may even be able to challenge an early NHL preseason lineup. They could not handle a real NHL roster, though.

I wasn,t , we are discussing this topic in another Hockey forum I'm in and there sure isn,t a problem with this topic there I just thought yous would like to discuss it too since this is a Hockey forum too but no problem!!!!!!!!!

Only if there was a top 2 pick on the line.

To answer the OP... no chance against an NHL team. No chance against a AHL team. Little chance even against an ECHL team.

I was wondering a Memorial Cup Junior team against last place NHL team but I guess not1

This is like asking if Alabama would beat the Pittsburgh Steelers. It just wouldn't happen. They are just kids and would lose by 9 or 10 goals if the NHL team was actually trying.

The Slovakian team plays as a U-20 team in the top Slovakian league. They get crushed. Albeit Canada's Junior team is better, the difference between Canada and Slovakia is much lesser than that between the Slovakian league and the NHL.

Put it this way. Team Russia, who beat Canada in exhibition play and lost gold by the slimmest of margins, would get outright wrecked in the KHL.

Team Canada would be destroyed in the KHL and totally annihilated in the NHL.

I would put 500-1 odds on the game.

Fucale trying to stop a Shea Weber shot would be funny. Nic Petan's little fancy pants shelfs wouldn't work on Rinne.

Which one of those D is going to stop Perry and Getzlaf? Stamkos?

I don't think it would be close.

What about an all world Junior team (including NHL players not released) vs the worst NHL team (say Edmonton at this point).

Include MacKinnon, Drouin, Horvat, Ekblad, Bennett, Nichushkin, Barkov as well as Eichel, Nylander, Draisaitl, Ehlers, Larkin etc.

So a team of fourth liners/AHL players/Junior players with a few bright spots (MacKinnon, Ekblad) against a NHL team? No chance still. Ekblad can't play 60 minutes, and the best junior goalie (probs Husso/Saros) would not be able to stand against the onslaught.
