Unreal, this is like Russia beating us 13-0 in the Quarterfinal at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. This is the type of loss that gets burned into the cultural identity of a country for generations to come.

Just makes you realize how lucky we were to win the gold at Vancouver, very few nations get to celebrate such a monumental victory on home soil.

So true. Treasure the memories. How easily it could have gone the other way and left a bitter taste in the nation's memory.

Canadians are some of the last people who should be making fun of Brazilian soccer fans

Mehp, most Canadians don't care too much about soccer (relative to hockey) so it doesn't hurt as much that our teams bite (well, women can be competitive).

Us sucking at soccer is a bit like France sucking at hockey, there's a following there but overall I don't think they lose much sleep over it.

It was worse for Vancouver fans. This isn't the final that they are losing here.

When it was announced that they would host this World Cup, all Brazilians talked about was to forget the "nightmare" of 1950, when Brazil hosted the tournament and was heavily favoured to win the Cup but lost the final game to Uruguay 2-1 (at the time, it was a round robin setup). We're talking about something that happened 64 years ago, a final result that while disappointing for Brazil, was a "normal" soccer score.

In that context, imagine how this game is going to be remembered. This is a spectacular way to forget 1950. Spain's loss to Netherlands was shocking. Brazil's loss to Germany is historic. The impact of the Canucks' loss against the Bruins among Canucks fans is nothing compared to the impact of this loss among Brazil as a whole.

Exactly. This one will leave a huge mark.

This is the worst moment in Brazilian footballing history, it was their biggest loss since 1920 and the first time they lost a competitive home match since 1975 (or something like that). And this was on their home turf in a World Cup semifinal, not some qualifier. Brazilians still suffer nightmares over losing the 1950 World Cup final in Brazil 2-1. Well there's going to be a whole new generation haunted by 90 minutes of football. It's also Brazil's biggest World Cup defeat ever, previous was 3-0 in 1998

Does anyone know of any Canadian VPNs or whatever? I know there are plugins that make it look like you're from the US for Youtube or Hulu or whatever, but a friend of mine is out of the country and can't access CBC.
