Ugh, they're probably gonna want Rasmussen back....he's a Surrey, BC boy. I'd prefer to give up Veleno because Ras could someday if we ever get back into the playoffs be a difference maker if he keeps developing properly.

I’m glad to see Ras looking better as a winger rather than trying to pound him into the center spot where he’s not as good. But he’s still really lacking in puck skills/shooting ability.

That said, I still don’t want to get rid of him. I’m also not sure if bringing Horvat here helps this team as much as we hope. He’s got gaudy goal totals playing Bruce Boudreaux hockey.

He’s an upgrade on Copp but a downgrade on Larkin. It’s a boost to the team but I’d worry about Yzerman getting him as insurance for Larkin leaving because negotiations aren’t going well.

Mathews is going home to Arizona! hence the mustache....
Maybe if that team wasn't so mismanaged.

I think he will return to the US and pick a southern team, maybe the Blues? (Haven't looked at all of the teams with space after next season.) Until then I will continue to have my porn fantasy of mustache in a red uniform. I think the Wings would be more palatable than a complete rebuild like Chicago.

Kraken won't have the cap space, so the Wings are my only hope.

Raz will work on it this summer, book it. He had to straighten out his skating first, which should have happened a couple of years ago. He seems dedicated to becoming a better player, he knows the next step.

Rasmussen has become a guy I don't mind having around... but I don't think he is the kind of guy you will regret moving on from if you have the chance to upgrade your team.

getting a bonafide 2C would help this team tremendously. Its still a huge hole in the organizaiton and would likely make Larkin happier to sign with us. I think he goes to a contender and we sign as UFA after

Vrana - Larkin - Raymond
Berggren - Horvat - Perron
Kubalik - Copp - Fabbri
Soderblom - Kasper - Ras/Veleno

This forward core is young, insanely talented and could do some damage in the playoffs. Who else has 2 first rounders on their 4th line?

Might get a good C in this years draft on top of these 4.

So you're saying the Wings will trade an AHLer for him a couple years later?

I would not trade for him. No guarantee he even sticks around, and the price would be expensive.

Free agent is another matter.
Why wouldn't he stick around? Grew up a Red Wings fan. Plus his family home is only 90 minutes away from Detroit. I can see Bo Horvat extending long term with Detroit more than any other team that pursues him.

I think a trade for Horvat would be much more palatable than a trade for EP even if EP is the superior player. I think Horvat can be had without giving up Seider/Raymond/Ed/Kasper/Berggren or a 1st so I would be on board. Basically, Vancouver is going to lose him for nothing this summer so any quality assets would probably get them to bite. I would think Ras/Joey, Zadina, Buium/Wallinder and maybe 2 2nds gets it close. That's even without having Horvat extended.

I don't think they'll do it for a waiver pickup, but maybe for an overrated middle pair defenseman with motivational issues on an expiring contract. Chiarot has too much motivation to fit the bill, but maybe if we throw in a lazy AHLer as a kicker, it could happen.

The most likely scenario is that he stays in Toronto, and Nylander winds up being the odd man out.

I would much rather give up assets for an Eichel level player versus a Horvat level player

Even with Horvat we are just a bubble team
There's a 26 goal differential between Copp and Horvat, that difference would put the Wings at 6th in the league in scoring, only 10 goals away from the top.

Probably a bubble team until Ed, Kasper, and Wallinder develop into NHLers, but a team worth watching. Imagine a team with TWO lines.... wow, that's like twice the excitement every game.

Talk is Boston is hot for Horvat as well and they are looking to extend him. This could be the second year in a row Boston snaps up a prominent pending UFA and keep them off the market. Lindholm has been very good for them, I feel the Wings would of pushed hard for him.

Would you guys do a top 3 protected 1st + wallinder + Zadina for horvat extended?
I'd talk to Bo's management, and see about if he's willing to wait on a new contract until July and let someone else trade for him. If Vancouver is letting teams talk to him regarding extensions there is no reason we can't start negotating for the summer.

Horvat isn't going to move the needle much for the remainder of this season. Save the assets.

Do not want to be locked into Larkin and Horvat for next 7 years at around 18 million. What a disaster that likely turns into.

If we got Horvat, how many seasons before the pro Horvat crowd start whining about this mediocre team and begin calling for a rebuild. That's what I want to know.

I would take Horvat if they can get him without giving up Edvinsson or their first, especially if they can get him to extend on an 8x8. That would really destroy Larkin's negotiating position and there's a world where you could get them both for 16 million a year.

Not after Horvat signed for 8M.

For millions of years, professional sports player unions fought hard and long for the right to free agency to increase players negotiating positions, because, oddly, it was thought that dealing with every team, instead of just one team was advantageous to the individual player.

That has seemingly suddenly changed now that Dylan Larkin is about to become a free agent. At least in the mind of one poster.

No further questions, your honor.

To Vancouver:

-Tyler Bertuzzi
-Filip Zadina
-William Wallinder

To Detroit:
-Bo Horvat

Probably not enough, and yes Wallinder has sky-high potential as a smooth skating D that is trending towards being a top 4 D in the NHL, but you need to give to get.
This deal has potential. I'd make the following change;

To Vancouver;

Tyler Bertuzzi
Michael Rasmussen
Any D prospect other than Edvinsson and Wallinder
2nd from St Louis from Leddy Trade
