Lol...

This is Boudreau in morning before he shaves...

PC040137.jpg

That bloated old man definitely outsmarted our all star coach.

We lost 3 games in a row to the Wild the exact same way and Maurice did not learn a thing about how to play them.

If you insert a "and" between Laine and Little I think your on to something.

Keep dreaming. Laine has been an absolute joke. Little has been fine. I thought Little was actually decent tonight and very good last game. Roslo was decent both games. Which is impressive considering they are shorthanded every shift. Worse actually, because that non existant linemate gives pucks away all game

Somewhere nice
Coach needs to find the best combo.

To make all 4 lines going well on a regular basis.

That might mean splitting 55 and 26 , and for him that is not going to happen ,ever...............

Just watch how the playoffs go. It is not hard to counter a trap, but it doesn't come naturally to our team due to the skill level and liking to create off the rush. When Nashville tried it in the playoffs we countered it.

We have been struggling with it since Vegas. The problem stems from our breakout being on the half wall to a stationary winger.

You need close support to beat the trap, having skill and speed actually is supposed to help. I remember when the pens actually started flipping the puck in the air over the neutral zone to beat it. The trap isn't nearly as effective as it used to be. The removal of the redline really kind of killed it, at least to every coach other then ours.

Wheeler must have the worst looking season for a 90+ point pace for the season. He looks awful every game, but somehow keeps getting assists.

Ok, let’s just talk about the one period we looked good against them this year - the one where the Wild completely sat back and protected a lead.
Sorry, this story has repeated itself with trap teams all year. How will it magically change once the playoffs begin - unless you’re saying they aren’t really trying right now?

Minnesota, Calgary and Vegas have trapped the f*** out of us.

It is an easy 2 points for opposing trap teams when our coach can't counter it.

I think Maurice is trying to protect Laine a little bit here, being safely in the playoffs. The kid should have been demoted for sure.
I'm not sure that demoting him will accomplish much - this to me looks like a kid who's struggling a lot with his confidence. I don't think it's an effort issue, he's just fighting it a lot. He's a big lanky guy who hasn't filled out his frame and has a weird skating style, he'll never look like he's putting in the same effort as a guy like Tanev. From all accounts he works hard and is one of the first on last off type guys. I think he's really frustrated with his play and doubting himself a lot, and in those cases demoting the kid might not help much.

If anything I think he might need the Ehlers treatment - put him up on the first and let him get a lot of ice time with Scheifs and Wheels creating space. Generally I think in situations like this you want to give the player a ton of ice so he can just work it out and start playing the game without thinking. We've seen it with Myers lately too, the more he's played the more settled in he's gotten. It will definitely hurt our lines in the short-term, but it might end up benefiting us later in the season/come playoffs.

I wouldn't say not trying, I'd say not sacrificing. There is still 3 months to the playoffs to start taking the pounding a dump and chase game requires. Not many teams will play that type of desperate trap game that the Wild played tonight and it still almost didn't work. The Jets will fly back into Winnipeg tonight and pound the Wings tomorrow and keep racking up points and play the game necessary when they have to.

I think our second line has sucked for awhile. Laine little elhers Conner and now roso just haven't been doing anything.

5v5 your second line needs to produce.

Wild deserved the Win. Opportunistic, and much more enthusiastic taking away scoring chances. They force the Jets to battle mano a mano, and the Jets just don't have the strategy to break them down. The active d gave us our best chances early. Once Myers went down it was a trench game.

We may have got shots in the 3rd, but lost the scorsi. Know why? Clean shots don't mean squat. Most were easy saves. We didn't get too many shots from prime scoring areas, we didn't get much of a net presence. Little did all the dirty work for the 3-2 goal, but we needed a lot more of that. Make it hard for Dubnyk. The strategies we were using to win, of spreading out players, and creating seams doesn't work against the Wild. But once again credit a tenacious veteran team for limiting our opportunities. They scouted us well.

I think Lemieux had a strong game, but it would be nice to get that type of grit, with some scoring potential to boot, in our top 6. I think that's our biggest weakness.

Lowry with the post, Wheeler with the bar. Laine had the nice rush at the end that if he was feeling it, would be a goal.

Hope the Jets don't come out flat tomorrow. Would be a good game to give Petan and Niku a look.

People need to stop thinking this is lasts year team. They are not. Not even close. They could fall apart easily. We are not immune from a long losing streak. Wouldn't bet a plug nickel on them making playoffs.

Oh I agree don't worry. And during the game I talked about a lot of guys. 3/4 of the team were trash tonight. Many guys made just as many if not more mistakes then Laine. From coaching to goaltending and so on. I have no problem with Laine slumping, it happens. But he needs to learn to keep skating, working when slumping. I think the giveaways and mistakes are his current lack of confidence related to his slump. He has been a lot worse then usual lately in our end

Winnipeg, Manitoba,
The Jets were all over them in the 3rd. If you really don't believe the Jets could adapt to that in the playoffs you grossly under estimate our skill level.
But...why wait till the playoffs? They've been shut down by them rather easily.

I'm not so sure we have that other gear...I want them to, but just not feeling it this year between the lack of a clutch goalie, the inability to "break" a trapping team or even the guts to go against Wheeler and Scheif's wishes and split them up when things aren't going great.

I always appreciate your optimism and I hope you are right and I am wrong!
