The wait is over: Nikishin is on the way

I have my doubt on Nikishin being the named 3nd best NHL affiliated prospect. Seems like he has stalled production wise the past 3 years.
He will be good but not quite as much as people are predicting. My prediction is for a 40 pts 2nd pair D-man.

He's very good but I also have some doubts. People who think he's going to be a top 10 D in the league right-away could be disappointed.

40 pts seems a bit low, this guy is gonna score 50-60 pts average per year minimum I would think, and potential ppg.

50-60 pts would not be too far off top 10 D and PPG definitely is.
Hence my 40 pts prediction.

Who thinks he’s going to be a top 10 D right away? That’s a ludicrous expectation for a 23 year old with zero NHL experience.

You don't think he could be a top 10 D right away? He's going to be 24 years old when the next season start. And with plenty of experience in a pro league.

The Hockey News,

The biggest holdup is the fact that if the team wants him to get games in the AHL at any point this season, he'd only be able to if he signed a ATO (amateur tryout) with the Chicago Wolves and signing an NHL contact would bar him from having that option.

"When we sign the contract, he won't be able to play in the AHL any more," Tulsky said. "He'd be restricted to NHL games, so we're trying to keep our options open by holding off for now."

It’s an agent being an agent, making comments with the media in mind. He wants his guy on the ice.

The team is completely healthy and winning playoff games. Nikishin will draw in when there’s a reason to do so.

If I understand correctly, Carolina is set with their playoff lineup it doesn't include Nikishin? They are holding off on signing him until he's needed. This would allow Nikishin to play in the AHL if he doesn't get into any games.

Straining the relationship for nothing doesn't look like a great plan with your best prospect.

Again — the team is healthy, they’re winning playoff games, he’s a rookie. He’ll get playing time but it’s not going to look like kicking an established NHL veteran out of a winning lineup.

The Canes already have an NHL contract written up and ready for signature. Right now it’s just a matter of whether he gets some warmup games in the AHL first. The agent wants his guy on NHL ice immediately so he’s stirring the pot in the media. That’s all this is.

Player's doesn't look to be onboard with the AHL plan, agent looks really pissed.
No KHL guys ever are. It's stupid. Flyers goalie prospect kolasov needed the AHL time to get accustomed to NA but he came in with an NHL or leave attitude and he was shit. Now he's back to the KHL and unlikely to ever return.

And not even the agent doing the work here, its his KHL agent who would love nothing more than to have him back in Russia so he can represent him again. He's signed with a different agent and agency here in the US, so all of this noise is coming externally to anything going on.

I didn’t even catch that it wasn’t even his NHL agent making the comments. So this is a guy whose only incentive is to get Nikishin back to Russia.

That also provides some meaningful context to the whole “this affects all NHL teams” schtick. Trying to get as many eyeballs as possible.

I think Canes are handling Nikishin properly getting him accustomed to their play style and acclimated to NHL speed though Canes practices. As importantly, giving Nikishin a practice window & not putting him directly into the cauldron of playoff hockey will work out better for Nikishin in the long run.

FWIW: Demidov played well versus Chicago but NHL playoff hockey against good teams is a much more challenging environment. He has been a complete non-factor the first 2 games against a high level Caps playoff team with a -2 and no shots in 24 minutes of action .

I suspect RBA will get Nikishin in the lineup with either an injury and/or more practice time.

Carolina may not need him in the playoffs, but.. he isnt an average prospect and is already turning 24 before next season. I have a hard time believing he wants anything to do with the AHL, let alone taking a paycut to do so

Carolina better watch out here. Older Russian star prospects will not play these games, especially when they have a league they already shine in and do well for themselves. If it means waiting out a trade request in the KHL, that doesnt seem so bad for Nikishin

Odds are they figure it out but this isnt good
